Shelter 2

Please note that this review is coming from a someone who loved the first game. Also this review is mostly spoiler free. Some gameplay features are talked about and that's it. Hopefully this guide will help you.

Shelter 2 puts you back into the wild! Scavenging and hunting for yourself... and your four babies. This time you play the role of a mother Lynx. Because of this change it puts a new spin on the main game; you are no longer so helpless when out exploring the world. This causes you to have more free time to explore and scavenge. But don't get too cocky! Because if you do you'll surely be taken by surprise.

The world of Shelter 2 is much more open! Its split into 3 distinctly different zones (that are all connected through simple loading zones). There are collectibles everywhere! Seasons are also a major part of the game now. Seasons change smoothly and in 'real time' (meaning you can see the landscape change in front of your eyes). With the different seasons comes different benefits and struggles. Because of this you need to watch when and where you are at all times.

Might and Delight have improved a lot on the basic, but fun, concept of the original Shelter. So without further delay here is my Pro's and Con's list:

Pro's:
  • Bigger, better, more open world to explore,
  • More animal types to hunt and be hunted by,
  • Fun action gameplay that comes with being a mother Lynx,
  • Better looking than ever! The graphics are crisp and beautiful,
  • No more forced stealth sections (go stealthy only if you want to)! Play the way you want to,
  • More replayability.

But unfortunately Shelter 2 did take some steps backwards. They tried to keep the game a mysterious learning experience and while a lot of aspects worked this way some areas of the game suffered because of it. Because some mechanics such as (nothing too major here but just in case) hibernation , natural disasters , the starving and stamina progression , meaningless collectibles (looks like resources at first), and the few predators are not well explained it can lead to some frustration. The menus take a bit too long to fade in and out for my taste too. But all of this is obsolete in the later play playthroughs.

Also because of the fact you are a 'predator' now your biggest adversary is hunger. So the survival aspects, of the first game, are mostly obsolete after a bit of practice hunting some prey. Depending on what you enjoyed the most this could be a good or bad thing. On one hand it now free's up time and worry to focus on exploring and collecting. But on the other hand it cuts out a lot of the animal vs animal survival.

Con's:
  • Some aspects of the game are not well explained,
  • Pretty short (2-3 hours) game, (although some may say the collectibles and replayability make up for it)
  • Lackluster collectibles,
  • Slow menus,
  • Floaty camera,
  • Less animal vs animal contact.

Overall I really enjoyed my time with Shelter 2! It improved a lot of things from the first game while still feeling fresh. And even though I wish it had more animal higher up on the food chain it delivers a great experience. If your looking for a relaxed, fresh, experience then Shelter 2 is the game for you!

I will update this review as I spend more time with the game. I'll also cover any updates or changes.

This game is awesome! From the way it handles reloading, to how you can check to see if there is a round in the chamber! Think Counter Strike mixed with FTL!

This game is AWESOME!

Monaco is a heist game. When played singleplayer it's a fun, calculated, stealth game. When played in multiplayer it finds the perfect balance of: pulling of the perfect heist and crazy run-and-gun game play!

Although it does get very hectic when played with friends it's also more fun and satisfying! Using each player unique abilities to their full potential, while working together is priceless!

So what am I saying? GET THE GAME! If you like playing with friends, funny dialog bits, stealth/run-and-gun gameplay, or just awesome games, GET MONACO!

FTL is an awesome space shooter survival game! You try to survive and thrive by managing your ship's power, collecting new parts, weapons, and crew members. Oh yeah, once you get shot down your ship explodes FOREVER! And you get to start all over again. :) Pretty dang exciting huh!

This might seem like the usual fantasy rpg, but it isn't! Combine spells, collect weapons, and fight awesome monsters!
