I've bought this game about 4 month after it's release.
It was great though it had no story or any guideline.
It was like Minecraft: you just wander around the universe trying to get the best stuff and equipment you know of or could find. There were many great items like the old "EYE SWORD" which have been revamped.
Since it's full version came out it finally has gotten a story. It was very interesting at first but after a few hours i came to the realization that it's boring as hell.
To get to the last point of Starbounds story you simply have to analyze any structure of each individual race and fight some easy bosses. It doesn't include you in any way + you don't get any knowledge of what actually each race stands for and what their history is. But one of the saddest things in my opinion is that the developers added the Novakid race, which at the beginning was just a mod, but they aren't included in the story as the other vanilla races and you'll never find a Novakid village. Lastly you have the option to fly towards another friendly ship which you have encountered but you can't interact with it in any way.
It was one of my favorite games, as the full version update came out it just killed my feelings towards Starbound.
Don't waste your money on it!
