With the recent Castlevania DLC, this is now a 100+ hour beast for full completion. Maybe the most value per dollar I've ever spent in my life.

The deep assortment of units and weapons with many fun and powerful synergy combinations make this one of the best Auto Shooting Survivor-likes to release this year. It has a steeper learning curve than most games in the genre, but the payoff once you know what you're doing is worth the time.

How did I not know about this at some point in the last 15 years? Well, I'm here for the finished product, and it's amazing. It brings back memories of wiling away lazy weekends with a random Sega Genesis game rented from Blockbuster, yet has all the modern improvements to the genre that have been made since then.

Buy this RIGHT NOW if you fondly remember 2d-sidescroller RPGs of Y('s)'ore. Give the demo a try if you lack the nostalgia... there's still plenty to like without the rosy red specs.

Challenging but not punishing, always rewarding new toys to play with, well-developed characters you will care for before the half-way point, and a story that never pulls its punches. I don't even know how this game could be improved. It's one of the most solid titles I've played in my 35 years of gaming on console and PC.

Looking forward to 2-player team and additional maps in future updates.

Right now, its good that I can be a sewer man and throw a toxic bomb.

There is a LOT of game here. Changes from CSD1 & 2 are compelling: the new ability to turn-in all finished orders along with getting rid of chores you might think would decrease the challenge, but the pace still see-saws between lulls and franticness in neat ways.

Fun tower defense where you control a ship that can contribute to damaging the enemy lines. The enemy is humanity, you play as an alien invader trying to mine Earth who view the pesky indigenous defenders as insects to swat out of the way.

Biggest downside is no online play for co-op.

Still engaging after 250+ hours of play, despite disappointingly infrequent content updates.

Sequel to Miner Dig Deep with robots. Greatly improved character progression and exploration over the previous game.

Xanadu Next is a distant cousin of FaXanadu, and twice removed from another NES favorite of mine Legacy of the Wizard.

This game is from the golden years of 3d jRPGs, before advancing technology required tens of millions of dollars to appeal to the mass market. Its far from pretty, its controls are finicky, and you might just miss how to advance to the next area in spots due to a sparse (though effective) script. That's how games worked at the turn of the century.

If you like Falcom's other work, XSEED's other localizations, or some of the "off-Broadway" jRPGs of yore, you'll probably enjoy Xanadu next. Think Vagrant Story, Shadow Hearts, King's Field, and maybe just a hint of Quintet (Soulblazer / Illusion of Gaia).

Great music, addictive gameplay, easy to pick up and play but difficult to master. It's a great game to run after a long shift before bed with some music or a podcast running in the background. One round takes roughly an hour and a half to win, less if you make a mistake, but, like Dark Souls or Dwarf Fortress, losing is fun and leads to better strategies the next time.
