I almost never write game reviews. Sometimes I recommend something to friends without going into much detail. But it’s truly rare for me to say what I’m about to say here: this game is fascinating.

And I don’t say that because it’s incredibly well-written, or because the pixel art is both horrifying and beautiful, or even because the characters are cool (they are). What makes Look Outside so special is that it’s a rare gem—standing out not by shouting the loudest, but by being genuinely excellent in a sea of daily noise. It honestly makes me wonder how many great games get lost among the bad ones released every day.

I’m a fan of JRPGs and I’ve always loved stories rooted in cosmic horror—even before I knew who Lovecraft was. This game nailed that theme. And the ending? It doesn’t chicken out with a “leave it up to the player’s interpretation” kind of ending. It commits. It lands. It delivers. That takes guts.

Massive respect to the artists too: the pixel art is stunning and abominable at the same time. The sound design, gameplay style, and overall atmosphere work together beautifully. I also appreciate the variety of possible endings—it adds a lot of replay value.

Unlike Fear and Hunger, which I found frustratingly punishing, Look Outside strikes a far more enjoyable balance. It’s difficult, yes—but in a way that’s engaging and fun rather than exhausting.

I’ll be following this dev team closely. Can’t wait for whatever they do next.
