I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single farther to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for Christmas from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just, watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. loaded into the game, made my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Rating Cloudpunk as "good" or "bad" is hard because the game both has parts I genuinely liked and parts I genuinely disliked. It felt unfair to give the game a thumbs down, since I think a lot of work went into this, but take this thumbs up with MUCH of a grain of salt.

Cloudpunk takes place in a dystopian cyberpunk town that is filled with structural problems and complicated people – you are an illegal delivery driver who works your first shift and gets to know all kinds of people living in the town. You follow along many storylines that tell the stories of Nivalis’ citizens, and get lots of impressions and opinions about the city from them. The game mainly is focussed on story and world building - gameplay-wise you fly around the city in your car and deliver packages and people to different locations.

On paper, this pitch sounds fantastic. In theory, there is a lot that doesn’t really work in Cloudpunk: Many reviews on here have already touched on this, so I will make this short - the gameplay is not only boring, it’s often incredibly frustrating: walkable areas are hyper-complicated mazes filled with annoying elevators, endless stretches of sidewalks and very little interesting visuals to look at or objects to interact with. Exploring a walkable area is a chore, and finding collectibles should be classified as a form of torture. Flying around just isn’t all that much fun, and the city isn’t very interesting visually. You never really “get your bearings” and you always just blindly follow quest markers or wait for an intercom dialogue to finally end, so you can perform an action ingame. There isn’t really anything I actually liked about the gameplay at all, except that flying in your car was cool for the first hour or so. Player guidance doesn’t exist, it feels like there was zero level design/UX design put into this game, abandoned areas are a complete pain to navigate, and I feel like I was looking way more at the mini-map than at the world.

The gameplay does not really support the information the story is relaying to you: The characters repeatedly tell you that the city is dangerous, that being a driver is a job not many people survive, that the city crashes in on itself and there are devastating disasters happening, that you are poor, that you are barely scraping by, that you are unsure if you can even continue to afford rent for another day. And YET ingame you don’t feel any of this at all – I had so much money I ended the game with all purchasable upgrades and still had +6,000$ left. There is never any real danger involved in any of the missions, you never actually *see* the city falling apart – this game very often is all “tell” and no “show”.

The story also doesn’t work all that well in practice: Many characters are incredibly one-dimensional. Like, laughably one-dimensional at times. For a story that is about the citizens of the city, the game often just gives you over-exaggerated caricatures with one character trait to them. There are very few characters in this game that feel like people, most of them feel like bad cardboard cutouts that hold one (1) belief that they will repeatedly say out loud like “I hate poor people”, or “I hate androids” or “I will do anything for clout on the internet”, and it’s at times frustrating because the critique this game makes is not very thought-provoking. I don't want to say it’s *bad* that they try to critique social issues in the game - I want to say that they are not very clever about doing it. There was a moment where I had to save a rich person’s life, and they still complained about how much they hated me and poor people the entire time and I actually had to laugh because I felt like the game was afraid I wouldn’t otherwise understand that this is a *bad* person if they made them react with any semblance of human emotion for once. The writing in general often suffers from the bluntness with which the game will tell you everything that is going on in the city – random people you never spoken to give you unprovoked monologues about how bad their job’s working conditions are or drop incredibly unsubtle lines about the inequality in the city. Often, the main character’s companion – or anyone, really, will, after an interaction, call in to say something like “Wow, that guy was an a**hole”, just in case you STILL did not understand that the character was supposed to be *bad*. Like, I genuinely at times felt offended because it felt like the game had zero trust in its audience to understand morality or make up their own opinion on a character.

As my last negative point – the choices you make in the game often feel very meaningless. There are no consequences for disobeying a direct work order or for any choice, really. You can make some pretty villainous choices in the story, but the main character is just not written in a way where it would make sense for her to actually make a decision like that – I went with the bad choices usually and the main character at one point said, “I guess we’re working for a super-evil guy now?”, AS IF she was not the one who in-game made the decision? It’s just weird to add choices to a story that the pre-written main character would never actually consider. What I also disliked about the choices was that the main character’s idea is always the “correct” one – a character could tell you that they want you to do a thing, which is often even a very personal wish, and more than once the main character can decide that it’s not a good idea and just take them somewhere else, and it felt very “white savior”-y (despite not being race-related) because the game would often frame the main character as being in the right about the call they made. I found it a bit ignorant to people’s struggles to just go against character’s wishes because you assume you know better than them and then also be right, like the NPCs in this game just don't have any agency.

Despite all this the narrative does have moments where it really shines. The ending (without spoiling too much), in a sense, asks you to make up your opinion on the city and wraps up the game very nicely. Some characters are incredibly lovely and actually well-written, multidimensional characters. I genuinely loved the themes of urban decay and some side-characters (like the engineer) felt genuinely thought-out and added a lot to the world-building. There were interpersonal interactions that actually made me tear up a bit, and I loved talking to random NPCs, who would let you uncover little aspects about the town and how these ordinary people lived on a day-to-day basis. I think Cloudpunk especially shines in small, interpersonal moments – the city is filled with all kinds of people you’ll talk to, and some of these really clicked for me. I don’t want to spoil any of these, but these moments made the city feel incredibly real and loveable. I also found the missions all to be very unique story-wise and every pickup contained a completely new view on the world and the city, with every story featuring a small mystery to uncover, like “Who is this mysterious celebrity we are transporting?”, “What the f*ck is in this package?”, or “Why are the instructions so weird, is this a trap?” – these never became boring or repetitive, and I genuinely was always excited for what kind of wild mission you would go on next.

In general, I would say, if the game is on a sale, and you are in it for the narrative, buy it – do not collect any of the collectibles and *only* do the story-stuff, you will have a fun time and will find an interesting, overarching story with a good conclusion, and some beautiful interactions with characters in the world. If that is not enough for you to buy the game, I think that is more than fair because you really do not get much more out of the game. For me, it was enough to actually enjoy the game and I still had a fun time with it, despite often being somewhat annoyed with how the game is structured or presented.

Manipulate time and stop the apocalypse in this hybrid of third-person shooter and live-action show, with a few sprinkles of platforming in between.

The effects are so real that even my frame rate stutters.

As a projectile fighting game Lethal Leagues core is simple: hit your opponent with a ball to score and ultimately win a match.
You can try a bare bones prototype on reptile games' website to see if you like that concept.
Like many other recent small competitive games this one challenges the player with high risk&reward as a single hit from the ball is a knock out. Although if you or your team hit the ball last it won't harm you.
The intense fun of this game starts to kick in once you've hit the ball back and forth a few times, ever increasing its speed to ridiculously high levels (speedometer at the bottom on the boombox). Normal hits only increase the ball speed by 1, charged hits and smashes however double the speed. With more speed the hit lag will increase, the screen will shake, the background will change, intense visual effects will ripple across the screen and the characters will throw catchy phrases at each other as they hit the ball. Next to jumping and swinging you can also bunt the ball to slightly decrease the speed and carefuly set up your next attack.
The movement mechanics are very solid. You can move right and left as you jump, you can tap for a short hop or hold to jump higher and stay in the air longer as well as press down to fall faster.
The selectable characters two major mechanic differences are their method of gaining height (high jump, wall jump, double jump, wall ride, ...) and their special move, which can be activated with a full special bar (builds up by hitting the ball).

Next to online and local multiplayer with up to 4 people there is also a single player challenge with 10 increasingly difficult stages to beat in sequence and in local multiplayer there are 7 levels of AI difficulty with the highest one still being a challenge even if you are already very good at the game - although not as engaging as a good human player will probably be.

And it's a damn lot of fun.
Raced to the top of my most played game ever list during beta testing.
