TL;DR
An Underrated, unloved, and unknown game that is greater than the majority of Final Fantasy's out there that is talked down upon due to admittedly lazy port, 60fps elites, decent dub made wose by weebs, certain range specific parts of the game and people not setting the launch options to their liking.

Heed of warning for optimizing gameplay
  • Have the in game anti-aliasing off even at high-spec. Anti-aliasing is the main reason why people can't play this game and admittedly the AA in this game is bad.
  • I also always needed to play this game in Big Picture mode for the game to run my controllers fine.

Enough tips and onto the review

This game opens with bloody war from the get-go and the player, playing as Class-0, the top dogs of Akademia that help with fighting Milites out of their homes with their strange unaffected magic. Once you help Rubrum win their liberation, you get to play as the 14 unique characters with cliché yet lovable personalities. Learning of each ones weapon and fighting style will lead to loving one of these characters more than another.

The english dubbing is better than many people make it out to be. Although many parts of it are mediocre, the english voices do the characters justice in many parts of the game.

The games battle system is very unique of any Final fantasy since there is more to it than mashing X or square respectively. The breakthrough/killsight system gives incentive to waiting it out and observing opponents. With some bosses being unkillable without it.

The story is confusing yet intersting and involving weirdly. Needing people to pay attention to the story and reading the Rubicus more than anything. I didn't read much from the Rubicus but got a general idea of the story with good attention to detail with story scenes. But this story has had the biggest effect on me than any other Final Fantasy has had and I have never cried to a games story before.

Dungeon crawling and observing the over world is a key aspect to the game since that is where the majority of time will be spent. Although grinding all 14 characters can be a drag, the leveling in this game is not difficult at all with my active characters leveling up once or twice in one mission or dungeon crawl for 4 minutes with appropriate difficulty. And getting the strongest, best weapons for your favorite character require getting a lot of kills and killsights hit.

Many parts of this game cannot be accessed in the first play through, with many side quest requiring to be level 40 and over, it can be hard to do them since being level 40 was the highest I could go by the end. And since a lot of dungeons have monsters over 40, safe to say this was intended to be played more than once.

Conlusion
Is this a lazy refresh from Square Enix? Yes. Does it deter this games value? Kinda. But this game was a fantastic experience well worth the replay value and tears despite the lazy port. The obvious PSP graphics are noticable, but picking this great game on sale shouldn't be a punch to the stomach.
