Fallout 4 VR has the same problems out of the box as Skyrim, essentially you have no real sense of presence or interactivity with the world. It's a great world to be in but the game-play falls flat.

But whereas Skyrim is easy to fix with mods, plus compatible with the vast majority of releases for Special Edition, Fallout 4 VR is a complete pain in the neck to fix up. A lot of the best Fallout 4 mods and overhauls don't work in VR and even if they have patches, it's a lottery whether or not it will play nice with your install.

I have roughly 250 hours on the normal version with a huge modlist, so far I've managed to brick my VR install several times just trying to get a handful of mods to load.

There's various guides and lists floating around for stable overhauls but it's a complete dice roll if it will work with your particular install.

Couple this with the fact they released this with none of the DLC, it's a lazy port even compared to it's underwhelming cousin.

EDIT: I bit the bullet and put in the three hours of work to install Fallout 4 Essentials by GingasVR and so far, it's the only modlist that doesn't crash on startup. Luckily, I think Fallout 4 is at it's best as a survival FPS so the list suits my playstyle. Your mileage may vary.

Recommended with the caveat that it's not a good VR experience out of the box, you need mods.

Without a combination of VRIK [www.nexusmods.com], HIGGS [www.nexusmods.com] & PLANCK [www.nexusmods.com] you will feel like a ghost walking through the world who occasionally bonks things with a sword. With these three mods, you'll be much more than a floating pair of hands that can't touch anything. You can directly interact with objects and NPC's in the world, the thing that makes VR games convincing and fun in the first place.

The scale of the world is truly impressive, it's fun to visit familiar locations and get a real sense of how large and detailed these places are. The 3D does put some of the visual flaws under a microscope though, you can't trick the eye with normal maps like you can in 2D. A lot of objects look flat to a degree I found distracting. Luckily this is essentially just the Special Edition so 99% of the mods released work on here. There are re-textures and high-poly versions of just about every asset in the game at this point.

Skyrim VR can be great but you'll have to put in time and effort on the Nexus to get it there. That's not going to be worth it for some.

Any momentum or enjoyment is utterly ruined at the end. My idea of a climactic final boss is not circle-strafing around, waiting for this idiot to flash green so I can finally get some damage in. You can't attack or he heals. You can't get hit or he heals. This is supposed to be the penultimate fight, what's the point of giving me all these tools, weapons and movement mechanics if you're going to take it all away at the last second?

I know the designers themselves knew this fight sucked because they deliberately added fodder enemies to the arena that stand around and do nothing. I like that I can use different tools to get health, armour or ammo out of enemies but not when they just stand there. Stick to the (actually excellent) base game or get it cheap.

RTCW is a game I've been returning to every few years since it launched. Real RTCW is definitely how I will replaying the game from now on, if only for the quality of life features.

The new textures and weapon models are well executed and fit within the original art-style. Real RTCW also has new weapons and they look and feel great. They fit right into the base game like they've always been there. My only complaint is that a few weapons seem a little redundant. I can't honestly say the game needed a fourth SMG (that shares ammo with the MP40 and Sten) but it doesn't detract from the experience in any meaningful way.

Workshop support is a fantastic addition to this mod. You've got access to all kinds of mission packs and custom campaigns that will install at the click of a button and work right of the box.

I have only one real issue with this mod and that's that it must be installed in the same Steam directory as the Steam install itself. I boot Windows from a small SSD that Steam is also installed on, meaning I have to use that same SSD to run the game, instead of my storage drives which I normally use for games. This limits the amount of workshop content I can have installed at any one time. It's not an issue that will affect everyone, but I can't be the only person that has their system set up like this so I think it's worth bringing up. EDIT: This has since been fixed!

Overall, I can't recommend Real RTCW enough for fans of RTCW that want to experience the game again with a fresh lick of paint.

As an avid fan of both the Front Mission and Armored Core franchises, I was convinced I could find a redeeming quality about this failed game. There aren't any. It's a buggy, un-optimised mess of a game and it's sitting at negative reviews for a very good reason. Not even worth it for a joke on sale.

By the time this game becomes a stand-alone purchase, if CAPCOM haven't implemented an anti-cheat system just don't bother. Masterminds are deliberately hosting games with bad connections, if not outright lag switching to win. Survivors are running around with infinite ammo and abilities. It's an absolute mess, which is a shame since it's a reasonably fun experience with a few friends.

Barely any content for the price. Literally a handful of tracks available, all limited to short timed runs. Lots of talk of promise
yet the official roadmap is prioritising "HD" track overhauls over adding anything new or removing the awful phone interface/intrusive micro-transactions, despite promising otherwise.

Not worth it in it's current state, wait for updates.

This is the kind of game that makes me wish there was a 'neutral' option for recommendations.

Rage 2 looks great, it runs well enough and the combat is on par with Doom '16 but it's ultimately unsatisfying. It has the same problem Mad Max has (also by Avalanche) where the exploration, clearing outposts and collecting upgrades is the game. The story is a handful of missions that ends just as it gets going. I didn't end up caring about any of the characters or villians since they just weren't around long enough to get invested. I'm yet to see if the DLC campaigns will rectify any of this but I doubt it. I got it on sale and I recommend you do too, it's a perfectly ok game for half the asking price (or less).

It's a shame because the core mechanics are solid and it is fun to play, just don't go in expecting a satisfying plot or wealth of story missions.

It's worth mentioning that despite buying and installing the Deluxe Edition game through Steam, none of the DLC was actually added to my Bethesda account. I had to go through Bethesda support to get them to manually add the Deluxe Edition content to my game. This was an extra layer of hassle I've just never had to go through with any other purchase and looking at the community hub, I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Learn how to install (or create) custom DLC's and you have access to one of the most powerful learning/practice tools for guitarists of all skill levels. If you play guitar/bass regularly and can get a hold of the cable, there's just simply no reason not to own this and integrate it into your regular practice routines.

If you're using a Pascal GPU, do yourself a favour and turn the 'global illumination' quality to low, or even off. That's where all the performance is. Also disable the Steam overlay, it causes choppy mouse input.

I'm getting a stable 30FPS on a GTX 1070 in RTX mode and it's nothing short of astonishing. The fact that we have a fully real-time ray traced game available that can be played on unsupported hardware is nothing short of an engineering feat. The game looks phenomenal with RTX enabled. Really my only gripe from a visual standpoint is that many surfaces are almost comically reflective, but it's clearly done in an effort to show off the tech.

Even if you can't (or choose not to) take advantage of the RTX features, this is actually one of the better opengl source ports out there. It runs absurdly fast in this mode (even for a game of this age) with no discernible input latency on a 144Hz display.

It's free and it's a tiny download so assuming you have at least a GTX 1060, there's no real reason not to give it a shot.
