For a free game I had a lot of fun with this one. Very skill-oriented multiplayer FPS. Unarguably one of the best in its genre.

This squad-based, open world RPG gives you free rein on how you want to play in this Mad Max-esque dystopian game world with samurai, ninja, mad robots, rabid bandits, and gigantic alien beasts.

I made a guide for beginners. My "Kenshi Basics (101 Startup Guide for Beginners) - Part 1" video will help first timers immensely:

If you're curious about gameplay, I've made an hour-long gameplay video that shows me venturing out from the starting area of the game. I also explain the nuances of Kenshi in this one:

(The video's YouTube page has timestamps, allowing you to jump to a topic that you might be interested in (combat, squad formation, the pros and cons of several weapons, etc). It's better that you view it there on YouTube.)

No updates. It's sad to know the devs don't even have the courtesy of putting up the occasional "hey we're still alive" post. :(

UPDATE: Devs have released an "update imminent!" post. Will change this soon as it's up.

You know a game is special when its community is neck-deep in stats, theorycrafting, and debates about weapon loadouts and lance ("squad" in BATTLETECHspeak) composition. Every day I learn something new. That's something that's rare these days where games are wearing these cute baby gloves. Here, the only gloves you get to see are actuator-driven, Endo Steel-gauntleted fists of a 100-ton Atlas tearing through your cockpit.

To get a taste of its complexity, here's one of the more easily digestible aspects of the game, pilot training:

I bought this game because the screenshots of its earlygame all seemed so tranquil. I felt I needed a game that I could play to de-stress. Little did I know it makes you delve deep into regions as dark as the heart of my last landlady. This mixture of an idyllic vibe that slowly transforms into a horror game as you plumb the stygian blackness of unexplored depths make this game one of the more interesting ones in my library.

If you're a reef snorkeler like me and/or a gamer who likes underwater games, give this a go.

Enjoying the game so far.

I played a bit of Armored Core back in the day and while this game can't quite match that, it's one of the few games here on Steam that scratches that itch.

I can also see that the game has quite a handful of acts divided into several missions each. This coupled with a survival mode and varying degrees of difficulty, ensures you're getting a huge chunk of content.

The developers are also very active and posts get answered almost immediately. That's a huge plus.

Just a tiny nitpick: I wish this game has achievements and Steam cards. I'd like to have cards that depict the awesome mech designs they've made.

It's not a Triple A game but the price is very low for the amount of fun you'll be having.

I'll update this review once I finish the game and it proves to be a phenomenal experience (or drastically changes my initial observation).

A Metroidvania-esque first-person shooter. With that phrase alone you know System Shock 1 was well ahead of its time. Exploration, backtracking, solid combat, and levels dripping with atmosphere---it was something else when it launched. It is a classic now.

Keeps updating the game and listens to the community. The result? A very good godgame that has streamlined gameplay and a good amount of content. This is one dev worth supporting.

Here's a gameplay video I made highlighting Early Access gameplay (the game has improved substantially over the months):

Bought this in its Early Access phase hoping I would be able to contribute to its development. Voiced out that the Deathmatch mode was pretty ridiculous in that it had tracks that are as long as the ones in the campaign. It fell on deaf ears.

Why is this important?

You're in a RACING game. But you're also in a deathmatch mode. If you go well ahead of the pack, it would result in you not seeing anyone else; nothing to shoot at. So you've to slow down just so you can achieve the mode's objectives of shooting down X number of competitors.

Slowing down in a racing game. Let that sink in.

A few weeks later, it came out of EAccess; it seems they've deemed it to be a "finished" product.

I bought this because I loved the F-Zero for the Game Boy Advance. It doesn't even come close.
