I'm only 18 hours in currently but I will say I did not expect how much of an upgrade Like a Dragon would be compared to previous Yakuza titles.

PROS:
  • Upgraded visuals look excellent.
  • The turn-based combat works really well, I may even prefer it to the previous beat-em-up style.
  • The story seems faster-paced (so far) and is interesting.
  • The new character stat systems, gameplay systems and bond system is fun and provides new ways to learn about the characters.
  • English audio with lip syncing is great.
  • Auto-save!
  • Ultra widescreen support! (There is a fan made patch to remove the borders during cutscenes as well)
  • Plenty of funny and serious scenarios keep the game interesting.
  • No difficulty options.

CONS:
  • While the controls are greatly improved over the past games, running around the city can still be a little wonky when trying to stop and interact with something for example as the angles needed to interact are a little weird.
  • No difficulty options. This is a pro and con as you don't have to worry about playing on the hardest difficulty to achieve a 100%, some people may feel the game is a bit too easy at times.
  • The battle system can have weird things happen sometimes, such as characters getting stuck behind bicycles or other throwables and having them explode for the character to walk through. Or characters getting stuck at walls and teleporting through to complete their turn. Doesn't really affect the gameplay but wanted to point it out.

OVERALL:
Whether you've played the past Yakuza games or not, if you're looking for something with fun battles, interesting story and subquests, that has humor and serious tones pick this up. If you're a fan of the Yakuza games DEFINITELY pick this one up.
