If you can get past the terrible voice acting and themes, there's a solid foundation of fun to be had. As someone with over a thousand hours in Payday 2, I can say this game is good. In terms of meta progression, it's a lot more shallow. No weapon customizing, no perk decks, no pre planning, etc. The combat doesn't have quite the game feel of Payday 2, either.

But, it also does a lot of things better than Payday. Nice quality of life in stealth where you have infinite cable ties, can have three hostages follow, camera rooms on most maps, multiple bag carry with equipment to boost it if desired. The single player "rogue lite ish" campaign is actually quite fun with multiple layered mechanics.

If you want something instead of Payday 2 which is bloated ($300+ AUD for DLC) or Payday 3 which should be deleted from the store, this game satisfies the itch. It doesn't have the depth Payday 2 does, nor the content, but it's well worth the price tag and a fun time.

Hopefully the developers don't continue push tiny DLCs like Payday 2 did and focus more on large expansions with substantial interesting content. I'd pay another $30 for 7+ heists, guns, equipment and more multiplayer progression but I'm not going to be buying 20 DLC for $2 at a heist a pop. The problem with multiple small purchases is that one or two heists at a time aren't going to be enough content to be re-engaging and coming back in a year to multiple DLC purchases can be very off putting. But, at this price point the base game is worth it and you can always put the game down and be done with it afterwards if the inevitable terrible DLC shovelware continues.

Tactics game mashed perfectly with a deck builder. Game feels reasonably fair and balanced. Overall one of the better deck builder style games on Steam.
