Boring if:
  • Alone
  • No mods

At its best I think there are better games to play (I guess this is not my kind of game). But I have to say this can be very enjoyable some times.

I am going to mark it as a NO, but is more a 50% really.

An amazing diablo clon. It brings some much choice some times seems too much. Is not focused for casuals (very time consuming and too much trade oriented) and the game is always growing. Is not that hard really, just don't do your own idea for a build for your first characters and you will be fine. I have over 1k hours in this game aside the Steam version. I think this game has brought or improved a lot of things to the genre: Solo Self Found leagues, modifiers for leagues, links, gem levels, orbs, races, etc. Getting first in a top race (even if is just your class) is amazing.

The main reasons I don't play anymore are:
  • Illusion of choice: there are lot of times you spend your "choice points" in things that are really just basic, actually most of similar build diversity differs in just details. For example: in the passive tree there are nodes with a very high chance of getting picked in every league and there are also nodes that almost no one uses. This got a bit better with ascendancy and jewels.
  • Quantity >>> quality. For example maps: just speed over it in a sec and skip the boss has always been one of the most efficient ways to get to the top.
  • I don't like the combat very much. Too much stuff going on in a only online game. Is not fair most of the time (there are lots of attacks that cannot be avoided) and I like to play hardcore (I had some 93-95 characters). I rather increase difficulty in another way. I want something like Dark Souls, not Touhou.
  • Flasks feel unbalanced, most of the time the best is to pop all of them while clearing a map and I tihnk that defeats the point of having a system where you are supposed to manage them.
  • Lack of testing. I have seen so many leagues that stay heavily unbalanced for weeks that I don't feel like starting a new one. I code and I would never release something without testing it properly. Just how many times have a patch come after 1-2 weeks of the league fixing/nerfing much of it? Or mod-graphic effects that result in massive FPS drops or game crashes?
  • The stash should be bigger with so many currency, divination cards and uniques. The free stash is a joke.

I mean that I liked more the old style of the game, back in the first stages. I mean the Path of Exile that felt like diablo 2 but with so much choice and endgame, was fun and not tedious, hard but fair.

The story is like KOTOR 1, so pretty good. You can see most of the plot coming from the start but is still well done.

I miss a lot of character development in conversations from KOTOR 1 and 2. For example the romance in this game is very sudden and forced.

There is a clear problem in the balance of combat and resources, but is not really an issue if you play the game with some care. The combat style is not really to my type but is ok, at least is better than most shooters. I went with pistols with every character and was easy, but is a shame that not all weapons are viable. The main problem for me was getting oneshot by rockets, which was no problem in endgame or if I were to send my companions ahead or cover.

I like the way you can obtain items and solve quest deciphering objects manually and having a backup way to get it if you fail (paying gel). But I think it would be better if you did not need someone in your party skilled enough to try and just leave it all to the actual skill of the player.

Money is tight at first but after some quest you are swiming in money up to the end, so money is pretty much unbalanced in all the game. This is not really a problem because you can still obtain pretty much whatever you need exploring.

So basically this is a very unbalanced game with a great story, another go at the KOTOR formula. The balance problems don't really matter to me because the appeal of the game is the story.

For me this game feels quantity >>>>>>>>>>> quality.

The thing is if you don't care about ALL those characters, the setting, the story, the side stories, etc (which is normal because it really is a lot of stuff) the game is tedious, and in a long, redundant and mostly predictable game like this: means failure.

I do not like this kind of genre much, but I have played way better games like this, KOTOR 1 and 2. There is nothing really special about this game. The combat sucks, the story is too diluted, the world is too big and after a while almost every item is useless.

I am not a kid, maybe these dominant and cool characters would be attractive to me then, I don't know, but I kind of dislike most of these badass guys, including the protagonist (even being a mostly good guy and all), which I get has issues and all, but behaving all the game like that is just tiresome for me. I mean, I know the appeal of an antihero figure (Guts, Jaime Lannister, Vagabond's MC, etc), but overusing sarcasm and being "smart" all the time is boring (even more happening with almost every damn character).
For example: I can understand the game telling you a couple of times that Geralt is super manly and all, having a girl or two, but you actually end easily getting 3 and another 3-4 in side quests, and of course there are brothels. I mean, game, I got the idea the first time and I am old enough so this does not interest me.

So I did not manage to immerse myself in the game, and that is very important. Another reason is that I found the game details very bad sometimes. EG: You finish talking with anyone and they proceed to give a spin, gesture or talk ♥♥♥♥ (even going against what just happened).
The way stealing/taking items works in this game is just lazy.

I found the UI and the combat very badly designed, slow and not intuitive at all.

None of my keyboards work in this game and I tried, I swear I did, I am a computer engineer. I ended playing with my ps4 controller, which also has a problem with this game were you cannot dismount (and it is confirmed and not fixed, but I managed to work around it by programming its touchpad action for this game).

I lost interest in this game and stopped playing for weeks, I think about 5 times. In one of those I choose to a several month SL1 NG+7 run in Dark Souls 3. After that I came back and finished the game.
I honestly tried to inmmerse myself in it: reading stuff, exploring (was not so bad, but useless), thinking/researching/building a build, winning in gwent against every npc, getting all alchemy recipes (I missed 3), etc. But in the end I got bored and skipped dialogues, used wathever build and items I thought were ok and just finished the game.

I have been told that the combat gets better in the DLCs and it is like a new game and all. I have enough and no reason to believe that I would like it and even less to pay for it.

Don't get me started with the quests: leading goat/sheep/people is boring and stupid. I also had a lot of bugged quests that I needed to restart, even some bosses in the endgame.

I did like gwent, it was one of the few things that made me keep progressing in the game, but by itself is not enough.

The difficulty was very low, even not playing any of these games before.

Even if this were free I would not play it, because it is annoying, the music is not my style and the game itself is not my type

I liked:
  • Ok combat system.
  • Is hard enough and when you die you deserve it.
  • Exploration and elements like invisible paths.
  • The way guns recharge.
  • The dash inmunity.
  • The way the enemies are introduced and the scalation of the dificulty.

I did not like:

  • The dash interval is TOO SMALL. I mean I even made an script to test it and a few milliseconds delay can ♥♥♥♥ your secuence, leaving you totally vulnerable. The 800 dash achievement and that place with lots of viruses at the end is just madness, pure madness. The 800 dashs are probably by far the hardest thing I have ever done in a game.
  • Too much keys and tablets.
  • Some hitboxes seemed wrong.

I bought this because I like dark souls, and some reviews pointed similarities around them.

I found this game to be rather tedious and honestly too hard. I have played some platform games before, but I would not call myself a fan. I think the hardest part for me is the controls, even with the dash it is just too hard.

Maybe I will give it a try again in the distant future.

EDIT:

I finished it and now I recommended it, but I still felt frustrated over several bosses and I decided clearing the game was enough for me.
I mean I don't feel like doing all the dreamer and extra bosses the game has to offer, I did some and the colosseum and I feel that is enough for me. I love some bosses, like the Dung/White Defender or the final boss (not the dream version).
I don't really like the combat, it is too precise and fast for me, but I really love the exploration and the quantity (and quality) of stuff this game has to offer. I think the game could be a bit less punishing at first.

So as a conclusion I reckon this is a really good game at its core, with a really good price for the amount of content it has (which is mindblowing when you check the few people that worked on it) and it offers an incredible world to discover.

There are a lot of issues for a remake intended to fix/rework the visuals and conectivity:

  • Matchmaking sometimes does not work
  • Stupid matchmaking weapon system
  • Still hackers! I have only found one in 67 hours
  • There is a bug and you can't see almost any messages

  • Fps are linked to the game speed, so if the drop the game frozes/slows to catch up
  • I have intermitent freezes/fpsDrops, even when I don't do anything stressful (like just walking)
  • Some textures look like ♥♥♥♥ now (Seath domain and sets like the silver knight's armor look like plastic, izalith's lava is terrible, Artorias is way too blue and bright, ...)

I would love to have backstabs like DS3 and roll in every direction (or at least that the character rolls aprox, instead of just doing nothing unless you point in one of the posible directions)

The only reasons I would recommend the Remaster are:

  • Some quality of life changes (like offering/using items in packs)
  • More online activity

A game with lots of things. Seriously, lots. This is really amazing taking in mind it was released in the 97.
This is one of those games which you can feel some kind of raw design and that it molded lots of games afterwards.

The story is ok (good overall, some bad points), the graphics are terrible, the music is kind of 8 bit but good, the combat is good (but could be much better). I think the worst part are the maps where the route is unclear.

In the end I think is a good game to play for a week.
