IT'S LIKE DARK SOULS, except for the everything but the third-person camera.

Seriously though, anyone who loves ridiculously well made and intricate rougelikes will find something to love here. It was great in early access and it has only improved!

Also, bring a friend (or three).

I finished this game's story mode within 8 hours, and those 8 hours were worth way more than the 12€ I payed in the sale. Not to mention that there is an NG+, Local Coop (!NOT ONLINE!), a boss rush mode, and a lot of items I haven't even found yet. This game is made for anyone who is acquainted with the Souls series and is looking for a new challenge.

Gameplay & Design:
You play a Mage who wields a sword with a 3 hit combo and who can use up to three dashes in a row to dodge enemy attacks. He also wields a pistol for shooting. Your weapon aswell as movementskills and the amount of healpods you can carry are all upgradable using yellow shards (dropped by enemies or found through exploring) in different shops. Besides fighting you also do quite a bit of platforming and exploring, which in this game, though sometimes a bit confusing is also very rewarding, as finding secret paths always leads to healpods, yellow shards or other collectibles. As you traverse an area you also unlock certain triangles to progress, many times by making your way through underground compounds which often appear similar at fist, but always have their own design, secrets and sometimes even minibosses. At the end of each area is a boss for you to kill, all of them with great design, awesome animations and all of them harder than my nipples dipped in icecold water. Enemy design in general is great with each of them needing a different tactic to beat. Not being careful and just rushing into a fight will make things a lot harder for you, which keeps the fights engaging and fun. Overall the most important thing to bring when playing this game is patience, without it you'll soon retire from this incredible adventure.

Graphics:
Before you scream:"Not another indie title with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pixel graphics as an excuse for poor visuals!" take a look at this game. Not only does it run smoothly on 60fps with low requirements, it also has a beautiful artstyle, great animation, great variety in enemy and landscape design aswell as awesome cutscenes. Hyper Light Drifter is instantly recognizable.

Sound:
The music is very fitting to what is happening on the screen, be it minimalist and mysterious while exploring, loud and intense during fights or completely gone for extra effect (I would recommend buying the soundtrack, but listen to it on YouTube if you wanna get a taste first). Effects like your sword *WHOOSHING* charging up or you dashing across the ground and through the air all contribute to the experience and all enemy attacks have proper sound effects too.

Story:
You're a mage and the world has gone to ♥♥♥♥, time to save it (the cutscenes tell you a bit more but you should see for yourself and try to figure out what's going on). It's not mindblowing but it fits the game well.

Bonus:
There's a football minigame that took me longer to beat than one of the bosses. Now that's what I call challenging!

Final thoughts:
If you like what you read and saw in the trailer, go buy this game, it's entertaining, challenging, with great gameplay and design and an awesome soundtrack. Besides a few nip-picks (some items/secrets are infuriatingly hard to find and one boss has an attack which is a bit too punishing) I have nothing to complain about.

Though the Singleplayer does not compare to the other games, the PVP is awesome!

10/10 would solve elevator puzzels for walking onions again

Honestly though, this game is wonderful, not only the graphics, combat and leveldesign, but also the soundtrack, NPCs and of course the bosses (except for a few) are awesome.

My biggest complaint is actually that this game isn't optimized all that well, so for anyone with a slightly dated setup this might be a problem (I can run MGSV on highest settings with constant 60fps but DS3 drops to 30-40 on both the highest and lowest settings).

Overall I would definetly recommend this not only to any Dark Souls but any RPG fan out there.

This is a well balanced and pretty much purely skill based sword fighting game with a completely reasonable price tag. I highly recommend it to anybody interested in tactical sword fighting games! I would not recommend this to someone looking for a multiplayer hack-and-slash-like game!
