A flawed gem.
This game was one of the best detective experiences I've had, but I would describe it as Resident Evil without the combat (or zombies). Some puzzles are more abstract in nature, but some are much more straightforward if you compile the right evidence. A lot of the codes and keys you find will not progress the story necessarily, but will help flesh out the lore of what really happened. One thing I will say is that a lot of the text reads as being written by someone who is ESL, but if you can ignore some overstated sentences and misspelled words the story is still incredibly captivating.
