I like this game a lot but there have been two things really detracting from my experience recently that have been making it difficult to enjoy.
The first is crossovers. While loading into a game the crossover characters border is switched out for the portrait of the skin you'll be fighting. The problem with this is, between the skin, attack vfx changes and character being labeled as the skin they are wearing, you are subjected to a high speed game of "What Champ am I Fighting?" before being able to adapt your strategy to the match up. I have to imagine this is even more difficult for new players as they're still trying to learn the rest of the characters in the game.
The second is match making. I do not enjoy ranked in this game so I almost solely play strikeout 1V1. I rarely seem to end up in a fair fight. On one end of the spectrum, I fight someone with a plat border and have the floor moped with me (the highest I made it in ranked was low gold). On the other end, I end up against a newer player and inflict the same beat down on them. Neither instance feels very good.
If I could give this game a medium review, I would. I definitely think it deserves at least a six or seven out of ten but I find that I cannot shake the two previously mentioned problems from tarnishing my experience.
