Tl;dr - Fallout 4 is an okay game, but any enjoyment you can get out of it will be sucked out of you by Bethseda's awful monetization system. If you want a post-apocalyptic RPG experience, go and play Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

This game had the potential to be good, a lot of potential, as the game architecture is solid and the gameplay loop of searching, killing, and looting is incredibly satisfying. However, what holds this game back is its own absurd monetization strategy. Not only do you have to pay up front for this game, but in order to gain access to all of the content this game offers, your must either purchase the 6 or 7 DLC packs individually, which is expensive, or purchase the season pass - which costs almost as much as buying the DLC on their own. Whats very sad about this particular monetization strategy being integrated into the sales of Fallout 4 is that the majority of the interesting pieces of content are found in said DLC. However, Bethseda and Zenimax weren't happy with this substantial chunk of change, and opted to include an in-game microtransaction store reminiscent of the Skyrim paid mods fiasco back in 2015, insofar in that the marketplace doesn't sell anything made by Bethseda themselves, but instead only sells Bethseda-approved pieces of community-created content. What's even worse about this system, when compared to the Skyrim paid mods, is that the marketplace is placed directly into the game, along with a notification on the title menu that informs people of the store and new content available; and as with all greedy and deceitful microtransaction marketplaces, it doesn't display the cost of the mods in USD, but instead in Bethseda's own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ currency, Creation Points, which is presumably an attempt to obscure the actual price of the mods themselves. Furthermore, the prices of the mods themselves are ABSURD considering how little content some of them provide, such as single modded weapons and pieces of armour being sold for upwards of 5$, or extremely short quest for upwards of 10$. This monetization scheme is frankly unacceptable, and although I enjoyed the basic game, story, and premise of Fallout 4, the money-hungry pleas from Bethseda for me to pay more money on top of the 60$ I gave them for it at launch has completely soured my experience with Fallout 4, and I will not be playing it; frankly, I have no reason to play it anywar, as I still have New Vegas and Fallout 3 - two much better games - in my library and installed on my computer.
