Let love be love.
Incest, particularly between consenting adults, remains one of the most enduring and emotionally charged taboos in society. While many claim the shunning of incest is rooted in morality or natural law, actual thought and research reveal that most of the common arguments against incest, especially sibling incest, are more cultural than rational.
The core of any relationship is consent. When two adults willingly and knowingly enter a relationship, the nature of that relationship, romantic, sexual, or otherwise, should primarily be judged on whether it is consensual. Autonomy is a cornerstone of ethics. To deny consenting adults the right to love each other based on family is to deny them agency, choice, and freedom.
People often claim that family dynamics create power imbalances, But that can be said about any relationship with a difference in age or in class and power. Yet those relationships aren't banned, they're navigated with caution and awareness. Why then, is incest treated differently?
A common objection to incest is the risk of genetic abnormalities in offspring. This argument, falls apart when applied to relationships between same-sex siblings or sterile partners, where reproduction isn’t possible or intended. Society doesn’t bar couples with known hereditary diseases from reproducing. If the real concern were birth defects, then consistency would demand laws against such pairings too. This argument implies that all relationships must be reproductive in nature. This is all before considering that in reality, birth defects are only more likely after multiple generations of inbreeding, which simply doesn't happen anymore.
Many claim that incest causes psychological trauma, but is that inherent to the relationship, or is it a result of societal condemnation? When people are taught that what they feel is wrong, disgusting, or unnatural, internalized shame is inevitable. That doesn’t make the feelings wrong, it makes the culture hostile. If we stopped treating certain relationships as inherently evil, maybe people wouldn’t be so damaged by them. If someone grows up being told that their feelings make them inhuman, is the damage caused by the love, or by the hate they received for it?

Let adults do what they want in the comfort of their home.

Let love be love.
