It's your run-of-the-mill abandonware. Which is a shame because it does seem to have potential.

Seriously though, don't bother. It's just an unfinished & unpolished intro to a story.

This is an old-school isometric RPG that is every bit as good as the giants (Pillars of Eternity, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale). It does have a significant edge over pretty much all the others though: It lets you play the villain, for real. And not necessarily in a "Oh I am bored, I'l just pick all the 'evil choices'" sort of way, but rather in a way that really makes you think about the gravity of your choices. Speaking of which, there is a big emphasis on morality and politics, and the game really doesn't let you be "goody-two-shoes", because the setting of the story just wouldn't allow you to do that. After all, what even is "moral" and "immoral" in a society where the "evil" has triumped?

Do yourself a favor and pick up this game. You won't regret it if you like story- & choice-heavy RPGs.

I really wish Obsidian kept investing into this IP and followed-up with a sequel. There is so much potential with this one.

This game has the potential to be great, but it fails terribly.

There is a lot of attention to detail, but most of the systems are quite gamey, or buggy, or don't do anything at all. Mechanics and effects are poorly-balance, UI is pretty bad, the game is not optimized and runs slowly even on high-end systems.

Oh, and, did I mention that the game is terribly buggy?

And it's all a great big shame because there is basically no other game in the market that even comes close to simulating grand strategy for modern times. *sigh*. I hope I see a decent grand strategy game set in modern times before I die.

Does Paradox have a problematic DLC policy? Yes. Do they employ that same policy in this game as well? Yes. Did this game ship with many issues and in a bare-bones state? Yes. Does the game still have issues? Also yes.

But, it is a good game. A really good game. And it keeps getting better and better with every patch.

The pop simulation and the production/building system are top-notch. The UI is intiutive, the visuals are amazing, and it's just fun.

In terms of negatives, I think the combat system is still quite lackluster. That part is just no fun at all. And the lack of stockpiles combined with the fact that goods on the market don't have to follow supply = demand makes the otherwise well-thought-out production system unnecessarily simplistic and unrealistic. Fixing those would go a long way towards making this a truly engaging and challenging simulation of the era.

It's not a bad game per se. However there are two glaring issues:

1) It gets very repetitive: The combat was fun at first, but basically you do the same thing over and over.
2) The writing: It had some strong points and was interesting enough, but there were many plot holes throughout the game, and it just got crazy as you played.

Overall, I think this could have been a much better game if it was shorter & more focused and with a more thought-out story & lore.

Worst DLC of F:NV. It's as linear as gameplay gets (you literally walk through a linear road all through the DLC, that's it. That's the DLC) and the story is meh. The only nice thing about the DLC is the cute ED-E fan service.

One of the best RPGs of the decade.

Excellent game. Possibly the best ARPG of our time.

Best Telltale game ever.
