Hunt Showdown: 7/10
Hunt Showdown is a strategic shooter with both PvP and PvE elements, both equally as important.

It's a little hard to grasp coming in with no prior knowledge, but the basis is this: You and roughly 0 - 12 other teams are thrown into a rather large map with a common goal. Track down, kill and extract with the bounty a boss on the map. The atmosphere mixed with the hardcore consequences of failure makes for a very tense and scary game.

Very Spooky!
The atmosphere and setting are arguably the strongest aspect of this game. Even if you think the gameplay sucks and it's unbalanced or whatever, everybody can agree that the visuals and tension are top notch. It takes place in 1800s southern United States and it is surprisingly pretty in a very morbid way. Everything is run down and muddy. It's like an entire map that takes place in Resident Evil 7. As you are silently creeping around the ruined town you hear crows off in the distance indicating other hunters looking to kill you.
Hearing wood creak beneath your own feet will have you tense up.
This is the kind of game that will have you jumping at your own shadow.
Nothing in time playing games has come close to the moment when you are banishing a boss and you hear loud ass footsteps. You ask your teammate to stop walking just to make sure. Then you hear the footsteps even louder. Moments like these in this game never get old.

Bang Bang! Pow Pow!
My personal favorite part of Hunt is the arsenal it provides you. The 1800s era guns are fantastic to use. I've never been so scared of hearing a semi automatic weapon firing around me. Most of the guns have a very small magazine, sometimes as low as 1 bullet before you have to reload. So walking around with a lever action rifle is literally a hit or miss situation. Any weapon in this game is a 1 shot headshot if you are able to line it up. Most guns are able to kill you in a measly 2 or 3 shots , which means the tide of fight can shift with one well placed shot of any gun. That moment when you hear a bullet whiz by from behind just missing you it is absolutely terrifying. God help you if you happen to run into someone with the fabled, fully-automatic, Avtomat.

The Bad & The Ugly
Hunt Showdown is currently being sold at 39.99 USD. Despite how great I think this game is, there are 2 maps, 3 bosses and roughly 24 weapons not including variants. That is not a lot of content especially for 40 bucks. When is was in Early Access it was 30 bucks which even then I thought was a little steep but fair. The 1.0 launch (Which was the price jump) added a bit more than a normal content drop from Crytek.
It included:
Weapon and Hunter Skins
Teams of 3
Women Grunts and Hunters
UI Overhaul
Some Weapon Variants
AI Reworks
QOL Changes

Rarely enough to warrant a 10 dollar price jump IMO. However, this game is unique, innovative, and promising. If this game looks fun to you, you'll most likely get a lot out of your 40 dollars. If you are on the fence, wait for a sale.

Secondly and probably more importantly, the game issues.
Hunt has it's fair share of balancing and performance issues. You will need a beefy computer to play this game. They are constantly optimizing it but this is by all means a hard game to run. I can just get a average 60 - 70 frames on low - medium settings (4 GB GDDR5 GTX 970, Ryzen 5 1600, 16 Gb DDR4). It's not that pressing of an issue but it is worth bringing up

The balancing issues arise with each change just like any competitive game, but with the very hardcore punishment of losing all your skills and weapons on your hunter if you die, they could benefit for a little more testing before updates.

The worst issue this game has as of now (1/12/2020) is the connection issues. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it a problem. There have been countless times I will load into a game with my friend, he will get kicked out for no reason, LOSING HIS HUNTER IMMEDIATELY, AND LEAVING ME TO GET TO AN EXTRACTION FIGHTING OFF TEAMS OF TWO, which usually ends in me losing my hunter as well. The worst part is the ♥♥♥♥ you they give when you get booted to the main menu and it tells you that you got disconnected and your hunter has been killed but they are sorry for the inconvenience.

I know this issue will be patched eventually as the devs have brought it up multiple times, but it is also worth mentioning.

Edit: The connection issues have been 100% fixed
