Alan Wake's American Nightmare was a great game to play.

In comparison to the first- not everything is clouded in darkness, there are way more guns, the engine as a whole feels much, MUCH, more polished and fluid. There are also live action cut scenes which I thought were awesome!! I felt it brought the characters to life in a fun and authentic feeling way. The characters for Mr. Scratch, Alan, and Alice all looked very, very similar to their in-game rendered model.

Starting with the guns & fighting: You now have multiple small arms and multiple long arms, similar to the 2 weapon slots in the first game. For small arms you have a nail gun, either an uzi or mac10, revolver, and 9mm semiauto. Long guns had the double barrel & pump shotguns, an M16, M4A1, crossbow, and hunting rifle. These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head, there may have been a few more, and a few I didn't unlock. The guns feel fairly good shooting, ammo was much too plentiful in the game as there are caches of ammo & batteries for the flashlight all over the place as you play. The flashlight was also changed in American Nightmare to no longer give the constant damage to the enemies's shield, handy when you're low or facing a single enemy, now you have to boost the flashlight to do any shield damage. The flashlight recharges super fast, however, and I rarely, rarely used batteries compared to the first game (also no flashlight upgrades).

The enemies in this game were not too difficult, most still had shields and they actually made a few enemies have different mechanics than the first game which was greatly appreciated. The process of burning down the shield and plinking at the same human silhouettes got old quickly in the first. This introduces enemies who fly around as crows and turn into humans, attempting to ambush and avoid your gun fire, enemies who split if you focus your flashlight on them, and even spiders who die by gun fire or light, no shield made of darkness.

Where the first game had great settings and characters, the 2nd falls flat. There are 3 locations for the whole game which was intended for the story, but man was it boring. Luckily each time you revisit a location the tasks at hand are fast forwarded a bit so you spend a lot less time in each area upon returning. There were 3 intractable characters you worked with during the game: a mechanic Emma (boring and over sexualized in appearance), an astrologer/scientist Dr. Rachel Meadows (also over sexualized in appearance), and a theater attendant/film maker named Serena (this time over sexualized via EXTREMELY sIutty dialogue). Mr. Scratch, your bestie, is the 4th character you really do anything with and he's pretty freakin funny in this game, I got a kick out of his douche-bagginess and his bad guy antics.

I did not play nor had any interest in the survival/arena mode which seems to be a highlight in this game.

To sum up AW vs AL:AN- Alan Wake has a better setting, story, and characters. Alan Wake: American Nightmares has a better game engine, graphics, guns, and enemies.

I recommend both, it's just too bad they couldn't get the best of both games together.

Alan Wake, a game done right!

A little bit of back story... Remedy ported this game over from Xbox. This is a very common practice these days (Console -> PC) and makes sense from a business stance. Now if you read my Deadlight review you'll know Xbox to PC ports can be absolutely horrid, frustrating, and just an embarrassment as both a publisher and to be a PC gamer. Remedy, however, did this right. Remedy funded their own PC port project - no donations or kick-starters (aren't kick-starters a crock of crap anyways?!). Remedy redid all the textures so they'd look better on PC and they also included all DLC and all at a lower price than the standard retail new release.

Gameplay! This game was a lot of fun. There's a lot of 3rd person shooters now, so try not to get bogged down with that part. The gimmick in this series is the enemies have shields made of darkness and your flashlight slowly burns it off - right click boosts the flashlight to burn the shield away quicker. Once the shield's gone the enemy is yours to plink away at.

I found the game to have great story, it was both intriguing and fleshed out. The characters felt unique and worthwhile (wife, best friend, and other side characters: radio show host, sheriff, psychiatrist, old rock band duo, etc). This game was released in episodic format so you actually play a chapter at a time left with a cliff hanger at the end of each. Luckily you're on PC so you don't have to wait for the next episode (as I did with Season 1 of Telltale's Walking Dead!).

Gameplay I found to be fairly boring mid game and very repetitive. You're given certain consumables to help you fight- flare gun (basically your rocket launcher if you will), flares (break down shield and ward away "The Taken"), and flashbangs (grenades). These are pretty powerful and you get a very large stockpile of these. The standard guns are fairly vanilla and I really do like how they keep with the atmosphere of the game. "Anywhere, WA" will always have revolvers, double barrel & pump shotguns, rifles, and so on. However the same revolver you start the game with will be the same, non-graded, vanilla revolver you end the game with.

The DLC episodes, there are 2 of them, were actually much, much more difficult than the main game. I found during the main game the only time I died was when I was trying to get achievements and throwing caution to the wind, basically being too lazy to throw out a flare or use my flare gun on bigger groups. During the DLC they limited your supplies and the encounters were generally more difficult as a whole.

Overall I do recommend this game and it's worth a single play through at the least. I am not aching to play it a second time on the higher difficult to get the story's manuscript pages (snippets of additional story & back story), however.

This game is sooooo good. This game is a Diablo-clone created by previous Diablo 2 staff members (Blizzard North). While Diablo 3 was enjoyable before Inferno got nerfed and I had a blast there... there was no replayability! You were stuck grinding and hoping to strike the 1 in a million chance of finding some ridiculously expensive item so you could sell it and maybe upgrade 1 or 2 of your gear slots. The auction house ruined that game and there were several Blizzard posts confirming in-game drop quality was tied to the auction house... :(

Torchlight 2 is Torchlight 1 amped up and with co-op play, HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS!? I love the secret doors in the dungeons, the combat pet who can travel to town and sell/buy for you, the random dungeons you can spawn (just like TL1), and the Steam Workshop added this year means you can play mods to your heart's galore AND you can join any multiplayer game with mods you don't have by hitting the wrench icon in the top of the screen (it will reload the game with the mods needed). This means even with 40 different games up with 20 different mods you can still easily join others' games.

I highly recommend the Synergies mod, but aside from that the rest is all flavor. I beat the main game with 3 classes before even thinking about mods.

Overall I highly recommend this game, grab a friend, gib tons of enemies and have a blast!

Solid game, guys!

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a mix of strategy, tactics, and resource management. You have to manage a squad of 4-6 members who level up with combat experience and get fancy new skills to use on the battlefield. You also manage your base in terms of research & development of new abilities and equipment, and manage the terror or panic of different countries to keep the world from collapsing on itself.

Don't be like me, however, and do your first play through on Ironman mode, it's maddeningly frustrating at times. The perma-death of your squad members and unforgiving AI made me put down this game more than once and take a break from it.

This game was really fun to play and a lot of my enjoyment came from my ability to really role-play and get into the story. The questions about the morals and ethics of adopting alien technology and how the world would be after the Alien visit I found fascinating.

I highly recommend this game. I'll give an update on the DLC/Expansion when I eventually play and buy them respectively.

It's reminds me of a platformer, but it's honestly more like lemmings where you have your guy moving automatically with interactables.

It has very low resolution.

I hate these types of games.

I didn't play more than 30 minutes of this game. This is seriously iOS micro-transaction freeware, you have no business spending money on this.

More of the first, but still enjoyable. I'm going to start right off saying PA1 was better, but with the "open case" from PA1, PA2 was really needed to seal the deal on the story. PA3 may come from PA2's ending, but it's not left open like PA1 was.

The ending of the story of the "Hidden People" and the soundtrack was enjoyable in PA2. I also felt the puzzles were a bit easier, but I still had 2-3 I 1 star'd because I just couldn't get the hints to click.

To the moon...

Let's talk about this one. The game's description drew me in right away and drew quite a bit of curiosity from me throughout the story.

If I had quit this game as I was approaching my frustration/boredem limit, about 75% of the way through this game, I would have said it was a waste of money and honestly not worth your consideration.

The first time I tried to play this game I had to deal with the "To the Moon & Saitek keyboard/game controller issue" which has impacted a decent few people (seen from Google search results). I had tried for ~50 mins to make this game playable but I ended up giving up because I would always run in 1 direction and it was a pain. On my 2nd play attempt, in the midst of my single player game knockout compaign, I beat it.

Honestly, at 75% I would have said the story was strongly predicable and the constant fighting with game mechanics to enjoy said story just wasn't worth the hassle. You constantly have to click, hit space, or enter to skip through single sentence dialog and everywhere you move you get stuck on bushes, flowers, and other stupid texture art when others you can walk over perfectly fine. This GREATLY impacted the immersion and kept bringing to light "why can I walk over the other flower, but not this flower?" shenanigans.

When it comes to the merrying of game mechanics and story telling... To the Moon blew it.

In the end, because of the twist in the story, the quicker pace, actual game mechanics (95% of the game is click, move, click on an item when the mouse cursor changes, and more click, move), and the strong heartstrings it pulled, I would recommend it. Not an overly strong recommendation, but the last 20-25% of the game won me over, big time.

The wrap up of the story sealed the deal as a solid, heart warming story I would recommend, but because of the constant fighting with game mechanics on this journey, I would have to ask- why couldn't this have been a book or a short film? Gaming was not the best media or Freebird Games does not have the best developers to make this story shine on this platform/media.

More of the first and a great game.

Please read my recommendation on Metro 2033. This game is definitely in the same water, but a bigger, nicer, upgraded boat ;)

Last Light was very atmospheric, military rounds were in surplus in this game in comparison to the first. This was handy for when you were getting your ass kicked or you needed to take down a boss mutant. I feel the achievements were a pain in the ass, but most chapters (there were 31 in total) were not more than 15 minutes, so it's quite possible to replay the chapters to get some of them.

The game has a great stealth element, improved from the first. You can knock out or kill enemies from behind and with suppressed weaponry it's fairly easy to clear areas without raising alarm. Even if you do alert someone you can normally back track, hide, and reengage, Metal Gear Solid style :)

I didn't feel as much tension or anxiety in this game as the first. I think it's because I knew most of the enemies, what to expect, and I was well prepared to go all out on the mutants (military rounds, grenades, etc).

Pluses - More gun options, more military rounds, solid gameplay and story. Return of original game's characters was pretty freakin cool- Khan's a real BA. The heroic ending was disappointing when I found out about Anna. The redemption ending was better, imo. This makes earning the "moral points" in both games give the better ending, but at least the 2nd wasn't as crappy because of the heroism involved.

Cons - Not as scary, not as mysterious... Kinda like playing ME2 after ME1 and you knew what the reapers were. Like watching Aliens after Alien and knowning what the Alien looked like and how it behaved. The first game's suspense and the mystery of what was to come seriously added value you won't get in the 2nd game. There was no armor or permanent upgrades to buy with military rounds. I literally went into town, sold all the ammo for the guns I didn't use, and about 25% of the ammo I did use, if I was maxed out, and ended up with over 1300-1400 military rounds at one point.

Overall good game, enjoyable, not worth $60, but I got it in the 4th of July sale, about a month after release for $29.99.

Listen up- if you've played Mass Effect, Dragon Age, or any other semi-serious Western roleplaying game, you're going to love this title.

SWKOTOR had really, really good music, very good, like it seriously stood out for me.

The characters were enjoyable, but not nearly as fleshed out as ME & DA:O. Bastilla & Carth were the only two party members who got a solid spotlight as both had direct tie-ins to the main story. I think the playthrough for this game took around 30 hours, but it was worth it and a very solid title.

This game will have significant playthrough value twice on both the light and dark side of the force. It utilizes 3rd edition D&D rules, obviously highly modified, you can play as ranged, melee, and once you get into the, (spoiler alert) Jedi stuff, a bit of a spell caster as well.

I have a few criticisms and disappointments from the game. One is the fact it's more difficult to tell when making a "hard decision" ends up being on the Dark Side when I feel you were stuck between a rock and a hard place. You need to have almost no backbone to avoid eating up dark side points, and I was in that boat as I was trying to be the champion of the boat. The second was the quick save getting corrupted after I started using Flawless Widescreen. Might have been a coincidence, maybe not. And 3rd, probably one of the more disruptive bugs of an older game, was the fact after combat ended I constantly got stuck where my movement keys stopped working. The solution? Quick Save, Quick Load. Now you know why corrupted Quick Save files could get annoying.

I highly recommend this game and I ran it using "Flawless Widescreen" to get 1920x1080 resolution. Solid game at a solid price with significant gameplay and replay value. I am not a Star Wars geek, but also not against it. If you love RPGs you'll love this. If you love Star Wars you'll love this. Enjoy, guys!! :)

LOL!

I got this game in the Telltale Humble Bundle and it has been an absolute blast. This game has made me literally laugh out loud more than any game in the last year, it's an absolute blast.

The puzzles are fun, the story is more fun, and the only delta I could give this game is some of the puzzles require the first hint to even have a clue how to solve them (unless you're much smarter than I =P).

Overall I highly recommend this 3.5hr long game for a burst of laughter, fun dialog, and some satisfying puzzles!
