Monster Hunter's well renowned animation and aesthetic finally make it to PC but there are a lot of issues with this port. There's not a lot of customization for PC settings, playing multiplayer with friends is very awkward (in the beginning), the gameplay can be very grindy etc. Even with all its issues the core mechanics can overcome them. The fights are complex enough to stay engaging even through the late game and the weapon choices allow an incredible amount of play styles. Monster Hunter isn't for everyone but if you suspect you'll like it definitely give it a try!

This is a learning game. The player character is surprisingly nimble once you get used to controls and physics. Also there is more value here than simple bragging rights. Foddy's thought provoking monologue adds much needed humanity to player hardships and the tension/relsease cycle of doing any jump in this game is more engaging than most horror games. Go into this expecting to fall and being made fun of. A great exersice for not taking yourself to seriously.

This game is the imbodiment of fun. Everything from the animations, the scenery, and the gameplay are beaming with lighthearted charm. There arn't many collectables in this game but that's a strength in my opinion. It keeps the pace fast and fresh as you bounce between worlds and ideas. While not the most challenging platformer, it'll brighten up any sour day. Plus I hear the developers will continue adding content in the future.

Refunct takes standard 3D platforming mechanics and puts them in excelent level design. It's calming and basic framework allow the player to focus on the wonderful pacing and building of the world. A game that will leave you wanting more but happy for the amount you recieved. In most steam sales this game is well worth its $1 price tag.

Darkest Dungeon has an incredible hold on its themes and identiy. One of the most faithful Lovecraft games to date; the atmosphere is dripping with dread and despair while proding the player's morbid curiosity. The game can feel "grindy" but I feel that it reinforces the themes of hopelessness. Gameplay is tough but there are plenty of tools at the player's disposal to overpower the monsters. Abandon the habits and attitudes of past RPG's, and victory will surely be yours.

Hyper Light Drifter has some of the best pixel art in gaming history. It's reserved soundtrack and gorgeous landscapes give the player a profound sense of wonder. The combat is swift and decisive allowing little room for error. On top of the game's frugal use of check points there will be moments of frusteration but combat is quite satisfying when executed properly. This beautiful and cryptic world is well worth exploring.

Tragedy is inevitable when humans are put under extreme circumstances. Detention's rare setting allows for myths and monsters that might not be familiar to most audiences. It isn't the scariest game due to limited animations but the story makes up for that. An effective tragedy that left me emotionally drained for the cast and humanity.

Anti Chamber looks to rewrite the player's internal logic and pulls this off spectacularly. It's bare bone asthetic and narrative are necessary so the player isn't overwhelmed by this strange world. Unfortunately in such a large and confusing maze it's easy to miss certain paths needed for progression. That being said, there are consistant rules and traversal becomes easier the more you learn. An experience completely unique to this media and to games in general.

OneShot has a somber beautiful world with an endearing cast. Exploring this dying world can be depressing but the game has an adorable protagonists who brings some much needed levity. The gameplay is at its best when puzzles break the fourth wall requiring the player to sift through their computer files. Normally these ploys would break immersion but OneShot pulls them off gracefully. At least two playthroughs are encouraged to see the true ending, but it will be satifying journey.

Doki's approach is almost the opposite of most horror games. Instead of building tension then releaseing it, Doki has a strange way of luring you back into security just after it tramatizes you. A well written story that's unpredictable and respectful to its subject matter, but the finale isn't as strong as it could've been since it doesn't sumerize its points. Overall a worthwhile experience if you can stomache some cheesy anime tropes.
