Early Access Review
Only a few hours in and I'm not feeling many positives.

I can barely tell if I am hitting anything ever, It's unbelievably easy to get lost and navigating and searching isn't really fun to me when I am being barraged by countless enemies that are honestly too hard to see, the game is extremely dark and there's no brightness options, and oh my god i am incapable of getting past the level with the weird mouth horses, I can't find anywhere at all to go and the bridge mechanisms, if I am meant to operate them, are not doing anything and I can't for the life of me figure out where I should be going.

First impressions were good, the intro especially, but the more I have played this game the less I like it. extremely unsatisfying guns and navigation is very bothersome.

If I manage to get past that level I'll continue to the end because I don't like to hold an opinion on a game I've not finished (or at least tried to) but so far the game is very meh.

They knew that all they needed to get players hooked on this game was the custom song option in the infinite mode. Holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ this game is going to be the peakest of peaks when it releases. If this is a super early alpha build of the game I cannot wait until the full release comes out.

My only complaint is that the music in the game's base soundtrack is very okay. The cover of Maniac sounded not very great and I love rap but the song used in the tutorial stage felt embarrassing.

it's not perfect but what it does good it does REALLY damn good.

combat is nice, it could be better but it's good. I think the timing for the delayed-input attacks is too strict. give us a move list too because my friend didn't know how to pull off some moves and the only reason i was able to tell them was because id played devil may cry. i do wish the same giant torso boss wasnt reused maybe 3 or 4 times, it's a very simple boss but it's dissappointing when an important story beat has it's conflict portrayed through a very passable re-used boss fight.

art direction is really good. i think some character designs are a bit plain, but when they get weird they get REALLY weird. the animations of the characters is absolutely something that blows almost any other indie game right out of the park, the cutscenes have a level of presentation above almost any indie game i have ever seen, it goes above and beyond to show off this game in an adventurous light. i also feel like the environments need to be polished and decorated more.

this game feels very classic in a way i like, it doesn't feel very modern and i quite like that, as it distinguishes itself from many games that will be around nowadays.

the problem i have the most with this game is everything sound and music related. there is not enough sound design, and the sound design that is there feels very flat, everything has the impact of a cardboard box, and there is almost no ambient sounds giving the areas you are in any form of life at all. when i first got to the field i got a bug that made me have no music, and i realized that the field was 100% silent, not even wind to immerse me. The music is a mixed bag, some songs get the feelings they want to portray across completely fine, but some songs feel a bit... eh? the normal combat music is the song i have the biggest issue with, it's very... melodically incoherent and messy.

One other thing, the beginning of the game had too many cutscenes in the college. Showing off the cinematics of the game is fun and all but it felt like i'd walk from point A to point B to see a cutscene that couldve been much shorter.

I do not feel like the imperfections of this game have stopped me from liking it. I cannot express how this game feels like the freshest breath of air i have ever seen on the indie scene. The character designs and art direction are brave choices i feel few developers feel they can approach ; character designs arent a traditionally "pretty" or "cute" look, they are weird and not afraid to be weird, often ugly in a way i absolutely adore. This game does not want to draw you in with an endless barrage of prettiness and beauty, it wants to allure you with how absolutely unexpectedly bizzarre it is. for every design that is unbelievably normal (the games goblin is pretty much just the most bog-standard goblin you could ever imagine), there is another two things that are utterly bizzarre.

Watching multiple of my friends play this game in voice chats, i LOVED hearing them lose their minds at every weird thing that happens. "WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥ IS GOING ON" was a frequent shout that i'd hear.

This game is the weirdest game ive seen on the indie scene. I know a lot of games nowadays in the indie scene are very surreal and intentionally strange and vague, designed to lean into the obscene and confusing, but this game feels weird in a sincere manner that just leaves me with more intrigue to how this world works and how everything is.

The gameplay really wasn't anything that exciting, about as much depth as an early banban chapter. The worldbuilding was nothing I could write home about. The only interesting thing was rambley himself, he was very entertaining. I hope later chapters have more going for it because rambley was the only thing I could really bring myself to care about. I at least however appreciate that when you are killed by the monsters, you don't just get a big screamer in your face, but rather a kill animation. If this game continues with that I will be very happy, as screamers are just purely an annoying consequence for failure.

It's like if kingsfield didn't suck balls. Insanely slow and I like it like that. Amazing art and music. It really did feel like it was just beginning by the time I finished it, like I feel like I just beat an incredibly good demo and I want like maybe four times as much as what I experienced. Five. Incredibly big fan of the combat system, I usually despise first person melee/sword based combat but this felt really good. Very engaged in every battle, whether I fought or escaped, it felt engaging. Be prepared to play a very slow paced game but if you're into that then you'd love this I think.
