10 years ago almost to the exact day is when I first started my TF2 adventure. I have had my ons and offs here but I always came back to this timeless masterpiece. Little did I know how much this game would influence me over the years. I’ve had so many experiences, met so many amazing people and found a home among it’s wonderful community. In spite of all this, Team Fortress 2 as it stands today is in a terrible state. Valve has effectively abandoned this game years ago, but that in itself isn’t where the issue stands. Community content has done more than make up for the loss, even if it meant no more weapons or balance changes. The community is what has carried this game since Jungle Inferno and is a reason why it still has any relevancy today.

The massive issue we have faced recently however is so big even the community can’t fix it alone. Team Fortress 2’s official servers, also known as “Casual”, has become a lawless world, where cheaters and aimbots have free reign with little to no consequences. VAC, Valve’s anti cheat system is largely ineffective as it usually triggers weeks to even months after detecting cheats from a player. Bot farms have been set up, with the intention of ruining the game for everyone, by flooding lobbies with CPU players with aimbots and shutting down any opposition. Valve has done effectively nothing to stop the bot farms from destroying their game and the community is paying the price. The profit they make is absurd even after all these years and they ignore the needs of the community and it’s patrons.

This game isn’t dying. It is being killed, by Valve’s neglect. They could fix this issue if they wanted to, but remain quiet, even now 5 years into the bot crisis. The time to act is now.

Please Valve, please preserve the experiences I have had, so others can experience this masterpiece as I have for so long. Please save my most favorite game of all time from being destroyed. My only request is to tackle the bot crisis, be it with an update to the anti cheat system, or even with legal actions against those responsible. Activision just did this for MW3, so I know it is possible.

Regardless how it is done, if this game is ever restored to it’s former glory, than I have no issue with racking up thousands of more hours here.

Sincerely, a concerned fan.
