Early Access Review
So far, I have been having a great time with this game. It's refreshing to feel like I have to work for something in a game again. The encounters are challenging enough that you have to pay attention to what's going on, or you'll die, and so far, I haven't felt like it's turned into a giant speed run. Fighting through the atlas map and expanding and exploring what gets unlocked in the endgame has been a lot of fun. The storyline has been pretty cool to follow, and it feels like the quests all have a purpose and a reason for doing them.

The graphics and gameplay feel smooth. I never feel like it is clunky when rotating through abilities. Overall, it feels smooth and enjoyable. I also love that your resources feel like they actually matter. I'm constantly trying to craft that perfect piece of gear and tweaking my build, swapping out support gems, and fine-tuning my playstyle. I've been having a blast.

That said, I think the map could be fleshed out a little more, as well as how the quests are worded. It can be confusing at times to understand exactly what the quests are wanting you to do. However, this might be intentional, as it forces exploring the map to find your objective. I don’t want my hand held or to be shown exactly where to go, but it would be nice if quests clarified when you need to travel through other areas before reaching the final destination.

If you're looking for a game that you can fly through and have endless hoards of insane gear by the end of a weekend, then this probably isn't the game for you. I've put close to 90 hours into the game so far, and I feel like there's still so much more to do to get my character where I want. It can be pretty fast-paced if you want it to be, but not so fast that you get bored.

There have definitely been frustrating times, like getting one-shot halfway through a good keystone, and I appreciate that about a game. Too many games these days have been catered toward doing everything as fast and easy as possible. Is it frustrating when you get stuck on a boss or can't steamroll through the trial of chaos? Yes! But that's part of what makes the game good. The fact that I get challenged and run into something I have a hard time getting through makes the reward so much better once you get past it. I miss that about games.

It's unfortunate that there are so many people hating on this game. For one, it's early access. It feels like people are complaining and trying to force the game into something that it is not. Try it out, play it at your own pace, and enjoy running into a challenge or two along the way.

I still remember playing Diablo 3, making a new character for the 800th time, setting my sights on the exact build and item list I wanted, and getting every single piece of gear (Ancient versions of all of it, no less!) on my list. That took me one single weekend. I hated the feeling of knowing that I was able to obtain everything I could possibly want on my character in such a short time. I want to feel actually rewarded and miss having that sense of accomplishment.

It is still early access, and sometimes people forget that. You'll run into random bugs, or something might be imbalanced at times, but for early access, I think it's going really well. I'm looking forward to seeing what they add to the game once it's in its completed state.
