The trick is locking on only when you're about to attack someone, since you move much faster and have more control over your movement when you're not locked on.

Also, try playing without locking on with your greathammer and switching between 1h and 2h. It becomes a lot easier to move around and aim certain attacks, like the 2h running/backstep attack, and you'll be a lot less predictable. It takes a while to learn, but it's worth it, and is pretty much the only way to keep up once you start running into better people.

Not trying to be patronizing, I've just used the sacred chime hammer more than probably anyone else in this game, and I love seeing other people beating people to death with a giant bell. IF you want to be a real lunatic, launching your 2hr2 and an affinity cast at the same time and swinging at your opponent when they roll through it can be _DEVASTATING_ and super cool looking to boot!

Yeah, the connection wasn't stellar, but also, most greathammer attacks are hard to land since they come out so slow. The one handed rolling attack comes out super fast, and if you have something medium speed or faster in your offhand, like a curved sword or straightsword, it'll combo into a light attack from that as well. Curved swords especially work well because they rotate you to face your target after the rolling attack might have left you vulnerable.
