How would I describe Kvark?.. Discount Hrot which plays and shows most of its hand too early and ruins any real feeling of suspense is perhaps most apt description. I've played the game for close to two hours, and finished close to six? Maybe seven levels on the Intruder difficulty, and the game just failed to deliver an adequate hook for me. Every single level felt the same, with me fighting the same enemies, barely swapping weapons or feeling like I needed to, and having to fight the same recycled five enemies over and over. I understand that this game is trying to deliver upon being "kookie" and "weird", but it really doesn't do anything outside of the scope of things I've seen other games deliver upon.

Any time Kvark was going to do anything remotely interesting it ruined its own level of suspense by revealing its hand really early. Finding the Sniper Rifle in this game where you're able to see some scaffolding across the room from where you've found it is a good example, whereas having the player navigate through some long-range encounters before finding the Sniper-type weapon would deliver a sense of excitement to the player. Kvark's whole gameplay loop for what I'd played was similar to this, with everything being deliberately laid-out environmentally to the player before it's necessary and ruining the atmosphere and suspense for its own level design.

Enemies in the game are absolutely braindead, with the only dangerous ones up to where I'd gotten being the standard Hazmat Suit enemies with pistols, and the *other* ranged enemies all being pushovers. There's a "Horror" styled enemy which is arguably one of the worst enemies I've encountered in an FPS due to their projectiles having terrible collision and their placement being behind objects which block their projectiles.

Truly, Kvark is likely a good game with chapters 2 and 3 fixing and delivering a much more interesting game, but I don't want to slog through all of the early content which feels the same for the entire time to get to it.
