If you're into top down space games then this game might be for you. Obvious comparison to Starsector, but at times I also get some small vibes I got when I played Fleet on Infantry Online in terms of the ship combat. Great game that I wasn't 100% on when I picked it up but I'm extremely happy I did. Only problem I have right now seem to be that there are moments where I'm just kind of puttering around trying to find the next step to a quest, but that might be more due to me not paying enough attention to dialogue.

True to the board game. Even playing on easy can be a challenge. Hope the game only improves from here.

If you are a fan of the books, I highly recommend this game. This game jives with so much of my own imagination when I originally read the books. Hogwarts Castle itself is beautiful, inside and out, I could not have asked for a better take on the castle. Hogsmeade is a more fleshed out village and again something more in line with how I originally envisioned it. I could go on and on about how the game tickles that joy center in my brain for how it brings my imagination to life, but let's move on.

Combat in this game is a joy. Better with controller for sure, but doable with mouse and keyboard. Before they started showing it off, I was skeptical on how it would work but the combat just flows so well. Being able to chain attacks and either switch to another spell set or simply swap spells out on the fly makes the combat feel very alive. Playing on Normal difficulty is a nice challenge at times. I haven't even finished the game yet and already sunk a bunch of hours into it. There's been some small gripes here and there, but nothing overtly egregious to say "this game doesn't deserve your money.

Ignore the noise, if you're a fan of the IP and enjoy Open World Action Roleplaying Games, then get this game.

Absolutely fantastic game. Yes, there are a couple of nice to have options missing (FOV Slider, and Keybindings). Is the lack of these hampering the game or making it unplayable? Hell no. Game looks fantastic, and plays fantastic. I have no issue recommending this game to others.

Being transparent I had one major crash so far (CTD), reloading animation got stuck looping and when I fired and hit the reload button again it crashed the game. I reloaded the game and I was in the exact same spot with the ducks I had been hunting still on the ground. So no big deal.

Bought the game on a whim, I like space games so I thought why not. Absolutely pleased with my purchase. Game is fun and has great potential. We'll see what the future holds.

Update to review:
I am now sitting at over 350 hours in this game with no end of playing in sight. I'm a little bummed about version 10 being pushed back in expected release but the game still holds top slot in my playtime. With groups like SquadOps this game has become somewhere I can enjoy with people I enjoy playing with.

---

The game is excellent, especially for an Alpha. Yes there are bugs and things here and there that need to be fixed but the Devs are very responsive to the community and they've built a great game so far. If you like teamwork based games you'll like this. The community is, from my experience, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Majority of the Squad Leaders know their stuff.

If you aren't ready to be part of a team then this game probably isn't for you. Those of you who are experienced in commanding small groups while working on the bigger picture this game is right up your alley. Those of you who, like me, prefer to be a cog in the machine and actually enjoy following orders in these types of games, please pick this up. This game is worth your time and money.

Sound quality is great! And effects like explosions are well done! My one criticism right now is that vehicle physics can be a bit wonky at times. Vehicle play is still very enjoyable, especially as a gunner on a Humvee.

Full disclosure: Played this over Free Weekend. The moment I can get the money together for this I'm buying it.

I'm enjoying it so far.

There are bugs, don't get me wrong, but it's been fun despite the bugs

Edit: Oh yeah...

A very entertaining game. I've played World of Tanks and this far out classes it especially since soon Air, Land, and Sea will be integrated into the same matches. This makes me excited. The last game I played even close to this idea was Aces High II which had realistic physics for planes.

If I had one gripe with this game, it's the player's that constantly feel the need to ram their planes into their enemies (or sometimes allies). I don't understand the reasoning why you would ram a perfectly flyable plane. In domination mode it loses your team points and wastes planes. In Ground Strike is just wastes planes and besides it's just plain annoying. (Doesn't happen as much anymore, also started playing Realistic more)

Update after 500 hours:
The game mechanically is very satisfying. The economy of the game completely ruins the experience in the end. 500 hours in game with very minimal premium subscription and I never got out of tier 4 in aviation. It's extremely frustrating to sink that many hours into a game and only be "half way" through.

Update for 2025:

I hate myself... HOWEVER I've approached the game with a different mentality, instead of just focusing on the almost endless grindiness of the game. That being to actually learn, improve my skills, and ultimately have more fun.
