If you were ever a fan of the Starflight series, this has a lot of elements of that, and looks like it may have been at least partially inspired by Starflight or similar games, but modernized.

Feels like a cross between Starflight, Endless Space, VoidExpanse, and Darkstar One, I suppose.

I'm enjoying it so far.

Graphics are on point for the genre.

Story, at least at the early stage I'm at, is a bit thin, but not so much that it detracts from enjoying the game.

Ship customization system is done pretty darn well, though if I had to pick a weakness, the material requirements vs cost and availability seem like they could use some balance.

The intro/tutorial mission I think kinda holds your hand in the wrong ways, though it's still pretty simple to get through. It's just not entirely obvious what, EXACTLY, you are supposed to do. The game doesn't introduce you to basic controls it really should have introduced you to within the first five minutes until you're on about the third "mission," and trickles a couple more after that til it's all done. This would be slightly less annoying if all of it worked already from the beginning, so you could actually use everything in the controls settings screen. For example, turbo is unavailable in the intro, but you get it for free immediately afterward, so like...why not let it work there too?

Beyond that, things do seem to generally make pretty good sense, gameplay-wise.

Could use some proofreading on quite a lot of the text I've read so far in-game, but most of that isn't egregious or anything. On a scale of 1 to Zero Wing, it's about a Starfield (initial release) for grammar. Since the story is entirely text (no voice acting/videos here kiddos!), it kinda matters a bit more for this kind of game.

But if the above gripes are all I can come up with, right now, that's pretty damn good for an indie game like this. Overall, I give it like a B/B+, right now. But I'm taking my time going through the game, so that could certainly still go up later (or down, but I doubt that from what I'm seeing so far).

Solid buy.

Starcom Unknown Space is a must have for any fan of Star Trek or similar exploration and adventure Science Fiction stories. I've played both Starcom games, and they're perfectly executed experiences.

This game has an awesome sci-fi story and the puzzles are quite satisfying to work out. Some of the achievements are pure luck or mad exploration, but all the story quests, etc. are great.

I do wish it was possible for one to get all the achievements in one play through, though. The game has zero replay value for me, and I don't want to go back in again just to get a different ending for a different "achievement".
