What's this? Me leaving a postive 2k review? Have the gods gone mad?

This review comes at the end of 2k25's one year life; meaning that it's also heavily discounted down to 14.00 AUD.
That is the only appropriate price to pay for a 2k game.

Myself? I only play offline sim : I am not an 'online' player. I don't do loot boxes, card packs or spend a cent on 'coins' in order to enter into a pay-to-win race that aims to extract as much money from you within it's one year cycle before wiping and attempting to charge another 100.00 AUD for next years game.

But gameplay wise. The Game feels good; it's been a-long time since I have said that about a 2K game.
Honestly in my opnion this is the best 2k since 2020 (and that had many issues)

What's annyoing though is in freestyle practice you can't turn off the music; and it will blast Nicki Minaj at you.
Looks like I will never practice again.

Also blacktop is ruined this year; it has an annoying cringe announcer and an even more annoying drone that sweeps back and forth across the camera for no apparent reason. Terrible.

But..

Shooting feels quite good when on skill based or on real player %.
Dunking with Edwards is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool as ♥♥♥♥ it must be said.
Step backs; turn around J's and fancy shooting feels great also.

Playcalling is fixed! Hallelujah!

It's probably the best version of this engine we have seen yet.
This engine still has so many limitations and still lacks a proper momentum system; so there is STILL the weird magnisium where players get sucked into set pre-defined animations.
Also the playes still move like robots when the horn goes off; like they all turn and walk away.
BUT in game; during game: The players body language has never looked better.
Players signature crossover and size up moves look very close to there real life counterpart. Small details show as well like with Bronson he will do his '3 face' celibration but also after hitting a standing or step back 3 he holds his follow though just like how it looks in real life; it's quite impressive on some star players like Curry; Edwards; Bronson; ect.

Some things about the 2k experince still annoy the hell out of me; such as the menus and music selection. (although this year they have some good Hip-hop classics and you can never go wrong with Outkast in a basketball game - and I have now turned off about 89% of the trash music tracks)

Also the AI don't cut to the basket off ball ever; unless it's from a set play. I know there is a setting for this and maybe I need to play with it some more but on higher difficulties I'm sure the same team mate annoyances are here from the previous installments.

But I can't belive I'm enjoying a new 2k game; I really though this franchise was dead (to me): But 2k have managed to throw another coat of paint over 2k and do the bare minimum required to get a pass mark.

Yep!! Lethal Company redux. I'm ok with it.

might be a bit of a grind solo.
Plenty of room for expansions inside this game looking forward to seeing what they add.

Was definitely sleeping on this title.

Easily the best thing I bought during the Spring Sale.
It's still on sale at 13 dollars AUD it's an absolute steal.

Scratches the Doom:Eternal Itch if you have already beaten that game but want something more.
Amazing Music.

Runs fantastic on 2017 hardware.

Yep!!! Great fun with your friends or family on discord or IRL.

Requres friends if you don't have a group of 4 then don't get it.
It's like a more serious version of Lethal company I supose.
Having fun with it at the moment.
I would recommend buying it at sale price.

I cannot recommend this game.

There is a-lot of talk about each playthough being different and a different starter world... but something must be said for the mind numbingly bad cringe forced introduction level at the start of every new game and the NPC named "Cass"

Your character is partnered with the most annoying NPC woman who tells you she has saved your life; then proceeds to save your life another two times within the first 10 minutes of gameplay.

In the opening section it has a simple jump puzzle to get into a warehouse; it does only take a few seconds but somehow the game is programmed for cass to constantly spam voice lines about hurrying up. When you drop into the warehouse perhaps you want to look around to see if it's safe? No; no time for that if you want to shut this woman up.

I honestly think even if 'speed running' it would be impossible not to hear:

This instantly put me on edge and made me start skipping all cutsences and voice dialog at the beginning of the game.

Infact since this is a grim-dark game first chance I got I shot her in the head; sadly it did nothing.

I can't ever imagine trying to replay this section over and over again as required to 're-roll' the worlds you are delt.

I'm honestly baffled by the difference in tone of the trailers/gameplay footage and what your new player experience is.

The dark tone of the trailers and gameplay I saw featured is without doubt ruined by the way this game starts.
What should of happened is a somber or harrowing journey for these two people heading towards a place that may or may not exist; instead what is portrayed is cringy mouthy marvel movie teir quip fest filled with unfunny and irritating dialogue.

BTW this has nothing to do with race or gender; an annoying character is an annoying character.

Easily one of the best solo FPS games ever made. A truly epic experience. at sale price it's a no brainier.
