Kerbal Space Program is a story not unlike humanity's own first forays into space. It achieves a level of fun and some practical rocket science/education unparalleled in the educational software market. Obviously, you can't get a job at NASA after mastering this game, but the fundamentals of orbiting, escaping gravity, managing thrust vs. center of mass vs. center of lift, are all there. This should be installed in every computer lab in secondary schools.

It's also very time consuming and addictive. Wishlist and catch it on sale if you're on the fence, that's what I did and it has been fabulous.
