We have one life. However with games we are able to experience many lives. JRPGs hit that feeling the best. I encourage everyone who can, play the Trails/Kiseki Series, it has the best world building, character development and stories written in all the games I've played.

This is an updated review 2 months on from my 2 week review. So let's take a look at what's been improved on and what's still lacking.

Exploration
Exploration you will still require a fair amount of meta knowledge to succeed, but having seen the various complaints and comparisons on the Chaos Speed, I'm inclined to agree that even on Apprentice, the Chaos Timers can be too quick.

The default value is still too short to have a completely comfortable game of just exploring the map without customising your own experience with the sliders. (At the very least, your lore payout and achievements can still be obtained even if you customise for Apprentice and Journeyman so make advantage of this).

My belief is to let Apprentice mode be easy, whilst still keeping the challenge of Journeyman and Masters. Journeyman may need a slowdown on the Chaos timers too as for certain maps like the Royal Mines or The Hanged Noose it feels like you're playing on Masters with how tight the timers are.

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is fun but has issues that still need to be addressed, these include de-sync where often the server lags for players and they don't see the same action until several seconds later.

When you want to sell stuff, if more than one person is selling stuff then your menu will keep refreshing if you're trying to sell too.

The game really needs to resolve the rejoin issue. It its quite silly to have to remake an entire lobby every time when one person disconnects for any reason.

A lot of bugs have been addressed and the game does indeed run a lot smoother than it did at launch. However people are constantly finding freezes pretty regularly.

Combat
Party heal items are incredibly scarce compared to FTK1. The only items I have come across that allow party heal are the Healing Rods and the one Purity Grand Sanctum. This makes Herbalist a mandatory party pick.

There is no indication of the chances of a perfect roll like FTK1. This needs to be addressed to make the game more user friendly.

Magic is mandatory to include and not having at least 2 magic users makes the game really hard. You are encouraged to bring them as half the roster includes magic users.

Crit Rate is pointless because it only rolls on a perfected roll and not like FTK1 where it just auto perfected your roll. Not to mention when you do crit, the damage you get added is not very significant (like 15% more damage). This is especially evident when you use high crit rate weapons like whips and they only do an extra 1-3 damage at most.

Taunt is often useless on the characters it is meant for and is best used on Evasion Tanks because unlike FTK1 it doesn't buff your defences when used and many enemies are able to just pierce your armour, break your armour or hit an aoe on the people you're trying to protect with the Guard part of the shield.

Classes
For the king 2 brings back 6 of the classes from the previous game whilst adding 6 new ones to the mix with the bard making an appearance next year. Many of the skill activation are hidden but have been datamined, but due to these value being less than ideal a lot of the skills can appear very underwhelming.

The following I believe need another look at on the balance:

Pathfinder they have an amazing skill in Survey which activates very consistently and helps speed up/direct the party to POI far easier than normal. But often lack any good damage towards the mid/late game.

Hunter has great awareness, but due to the awareness weapons being weak he often has trouble dealing much damage in the mid/late game. His Called Shot is one of 2 skills that auto perfects and criticals but only if you do not use focus and use a bow. At a 10% chance to activate. This is activation chance definitely needs an upgrade, its far too unreliable and not significant in most cases.

Woodcutter due to the fact he brings the strongest starting weapon with the highest strength, he makes the early game easier to get through. Justice is one of 2 skills that rolls an auto perfect and criticals at a 15% base chance +3% per focus used only if you use a 2 handed weapon. With the low chance of activating at most you'll see it happen 3-5 times in a game.

Shepherd is weird, similar to the friar in that it can be a tanky mage, but also similar to herbalist in that you can use magic and bow/spears and is faster than both. But the skill it brings is so bad, a sheep for 1 hp that steals a companion slot with a ?? chance to get a big bad wolf. In my 180+ hrs of playing, I have only gotten this wolf to appear a single time and it appeared around player level 6-7 right before the last dungeon. I think shepherd should be able to recruit more animals in general, like hawk, spider etc to have more chances and variety.

Hobo was done dirty. In a game where passives are way stronger and there's 4 party members for more overall coverage he doesn't have much of a place in this game. I believe he should get some wild card passives to spice him up. For example a skill called scavenge where he has a chance to find... anything herbs, potions, alcohol, scrolls, weapons, armour.. you name it.

Gear & Loadouts
Currently many of the physical weapon options are just inferior to their magical counterparts. This largely due to them requiring a lot more rolls, have weaker abilities and most enemies are also physical resistant. The best physical weapon so far is the Cannon and its higher tier variants. Weapons like the Sea Staff become a great option as they can do magic damage aoe in a column.

The whip or boomerangs are just a complete write off, how criticals work on whips is terrible, boomerangs usually are really rare and do next to no damage even with their aoe and many times they are just blocked by physical armour.

Meanwhile with a Staff or Book, you are able to AoE really early on and for high damage with an elemental effect. Enemies generally have lower magical resistances and even if they are resistant, magic weapons deal such high damage with an elemental effect that it doesn't matter. They can flex switch to a wand to pierce that armour or swap to a physical weapon too.

Loadouts need a rebalance. This is one of the selling points of FTK2 for me and its just so disappointing and underwhelming. Firstly the amount of points you get at the start should be adjustable to 10. Then either the weapon/armour options should be buffed to their cost, or their costs reduced. Currently Gold/Candy/Rings are far better options which obsolete almost everything else you could invest into.

Graphics & Music
The UI requires some work especially due to overlapping static windows that can't be moved. The camera should be adjustable by the player to get a better angle on the fight. Some abilities really should have their own skill in the combat menu such as Party Heal. Also double loading screen every single fight gets old.

I do enjoy the music in this game, so much so when I had a rare bug that turned the music off the game felt hollow without it.

Overall
FTK2 still has many issues despite a lot of bugs being fixed, the game is far from where it should be. This game still requires more time however but the developers are actively working on the game. Currently it would be difficult to recommend the game over FTK1, and since there is no neutral option on steam, I would say I lean more towards recommending the game but not a hard recommend as of yet.
