Why I shouldn’t have to shower Showers are fundamentally a bourgeois tool of individuality, especially in the western world. When stepping into the shower you reduce yourself to the atomized individual. This is merely an extension of the vicegrip that neoliberalism already has on our lives. In performing such a personal and atomized task, we are expressing the bourgeois doctorine of individuality and personal responsibility. Showering is an internalization of capitalist ideology, and the ideology of work. In showering we internalize our role as the individual “showerer” which assumes your entire identity. Your action at that point fits under the role of showering and you find yourself hailed as such. In doing so we accept the role of the showerer under the bourgeois individualist ideology and subject ourselves by extension into the greater manifold of the capitalist ideology.
