Great update but hard to test all the new changes.
Because it's still unsure what all the new changes are to begin with.
Because the devs didn't bother putting up patch notes.
Because they said there were too many changes.
Even though that's exactly why we need patch notes.

Otherwise, fantastic addition to the game, new unique survivors including the spiritual successor to RoR1's Sniper (people wishing for the Paladin to be in the game and who hate having to aim are in shambles) and a whole new type of gameplay with the Commando equivalent of Dark Samus. Gameplay itself changes a lot more now with new items to bring chaos and "spice up" your runs with more lunar items to ♥♥♥♥ up your 1 hour of perfect luck and an all new void item type to completely change the way your session goes, more or less well.

New enemies are always welcome and with more diversity, more threats. The game feels even harder now without being due to inflated stats or existing mechanics, turning the game into the vast diverse hell it's supposed to be and always has been in Risk of Rain 1. It's a really good thing.

There's a single bug regarding respawning to land when falling off cliffs, which can ruin your game.
Void cell stage has also been changed and is largely not appreciated. Time is no longer stopped, and the damage taken from being outside of safe zones can no longer be reduced regardless of your items, meaning that depending on your build you may die just from trying to travel to another safe zone or even out of the stage.

No major complaints otherwise, Hopoo has done a near perfect job as always but the lack of patch notes this time around is greatly disappointing.

I also personally greatly dislike the default look of the Railgunner, it looks much less like the usual artstyle of the game and more akin to the model style found on custom character mods. Thankfully her mastery skin fixes this issue entirely in a nostalgic way.

Also Hopoo please don't add sex to the game in any future update despite the numerous requests from your playerbase, it's vile and impure...

Perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery, coming back to the origin (and in my opinion the apex) of Half-Life by retelling the tale of the Black Mesa incident in ways that the original game couldn't possibly cover well enough with such outdated graphics and general setting, surpassing the quality of even Half-Life 2 games. Even an avid fan of Half-Life 1 would feel like rediscovering the game all while being very familiar to it. Crowbar Collective's work on Xen doubled the length of the game and leaves yet another big layer of truly astonishing views and satisfying gameplay that leaves an impression on the player. A masterpiece.

Helltaker is one of the most addicting games that came out within the last years.

Like most stuff from vanripper it focuses on the fighting mechanics and it absolutely excels at that. The resource management system forces the player to think while battling the hellish hordes: incinerate enemies for armor, glory-kill demons for health and use the chainsaw on them for ammo - it keeps every fight intense and yes, this system suits Helltaker well and refines it to its maximum level.

The controls are precise and every time the Helltaker dies, the player knows exactly what went wrong. The first three levels can be a bit uninspiring at first since the Helltaker does only have a very little part of his arsenal at his disposal yet and thus, the gameplay does not unfold its full potential at that time.

The infamous Jump & Run passages are annoying, yes - but not that bad, once you get the hang of it and that is going to happen quite early on.

Helltaker brings a very interesting lore to the table which adds a lot of depth to its world. While it is completely optional to read, well... you have to read it - and read a lot. The happenings during the cutscenes only make sense when you know the whole background of what happened so far. But it is almost unbearable to read every lore page right away because that breaks the flow. But as soon as it is read, it fulfils a coomer's wishes and all the happenings and confrontations suddenly become more intense.

The multiplayer mode is a nice addition to the superb campaign but clearly stands in its shadow. The idea behind the asymmetric battle is easy to learn and each match is a rather short one. It is quite fun to play, but not the main reason for downloading Helltaker in the first place.

So why is it an addictive game, like written above? Because of its campaign, its gameplay and challenges. I finished the campaign multiple times so far with a lot more runs to come. And I can't wait for the two announced DLC episodes and I still hope for mod support, because I want MORE!

Thank you for making this game, vanripper! You exceled yourself.

If Hillary were elected, we wouldn't have such beautiful things like this game.

Early Access Review
Land on a planet
Collect everything you find
Kill everything that moves
Steal everything
Find new favorite costume
Redecorate entirely your ship so it matches with your new favorite costume
Admire yourself and your ship
Want to craft new stuff
Complain you don't have enough ingredients
Land on another planet to find the ingredients
You find rarer stuff but not the common ingredients you need
Complain about it and stop playing Starbound
Launch it again because you love that game
Try to drown your pet by filling your ship with water, oil, coffee, fuel and poison
Complain it doesn't work
Redecorate ship
Land on another planet
Find a structure
Steal everything
Return to ship
Put all of your stuff in chests that you will never open again
Land on another planet
Find Horse Head
Redecorate ship
Destroy chests to redecorate
Inventory already full
Put chests everywhere
Put all of your stuff in chests
Ugly ship, horse head, naked
Take screenshot
Finally take a real and serious quest
Stop at the beginning of the quest to redecorate ship
Get bored
Wipe entire planets with violence and fun
Put everything you stole in chests to never remember you have those things ever again

Repeat. Every day.

I broke the script of this game by placing a garden gnome at the wrong place.
