Ignore the reviews complaining about "clunky controls", "unfair difficulty" etc. Shadow of the Ninja Reborn's control scheme is very deliberately and intricately designed, and although the difficulty is high, everything is fair and consistent, it's just a matter of learning the nuances. Those nuances in your character's controls and level design create a very deliberate, committal play experience that's very fun and fresh. It's nice to play a game as uncompromised as Shadow of the Ninja Reborn in 2024.

Yeah this is a videogame, we're gaming, no need for bloated open worlds and filler content all we need is to be a cool dude with a gun who shoots dudes every 2 seconds.

This release is almost identical to the Switch port that was released last year by Live Wire, which is a good thing because while Live Wire's port isn't perfect by any means, it's very good and better than what most other classic console shmups receive. The steam achievements available here are a bit simplistic compared to Ikaruga's achievements but are still a welcome addition.

Not as good as the other touhou survivorlike on steam (Library Survivors) but the art is cute and the inventory system is fun so it's still cool for a few hours. Worth the basically free sale price.

I went into this expecting it to be pretty mid and uh, I got what I expected I guess. It's a good concept with some pretty enticing visuals and music but the whole thing is just so rough and unpolished. If you really like sakuya and DOOM wads you might still enjoy this but at the moment I just can't recommend this game even though I'd like to be able to do so.

The dev is working on updates though so in a few months it might be in a much better state than it is now.

Not the best touhou game (or even spinoff) by any means but you still can't really go wrong with 100th Black Market. The card collection and roguelike-esque stages are a unique concept and was fun enough for me to grind for all of the cards. It's fun to experiment with the different cards and using magic circles to get as much bullet money as you can from stages and bosses.
