Fun game. Somehow dumped 2 days into it since it launched a week ago. Combat's solid with a good variety of playstyles. Map design's pretty good for the most part aside from Harbor City. Great game with friends, probably ♥♥♥♥ if you go in solo. Mechs are a bit time gated but doing the challenges should only take a week to unlock one mech.

Review will be changed once the next season comes out.

TLDR: Fun game, great unique combat that's a mix of a MOBA and Smash and DOES NOT AT ALL PLAY LIKE BRAWL STARS even though it looks damn close to it. But, it's still a fun PC PORT OF A MOBILE GAME SO EXPECT THE STANDARD SOUTH EAST ASIAN GACHA MECHANICS.

======================
Gameplay Mechanics
======================
Overall, the game mechanics and combat system's fun. Really fun. Once you get the hang of a character, you can free flow strings and combos.

You can either KO people by bringing their HP to 0, edge guarding, or spiking them when they're off stage. There's no shielding or grabbing, but there's the 3 dimensions that you can move in. There's no percents either, so a combo will work from full HP or from 10% HP. It's consistently fun and is based on whiff punishing in that 3D space and putting your strings in.

=====================
Mobile Mechanics
=====================

Saying this, it's still a mobile game ported to PC. So, you'll be limited to WASD movement and aiming, unlike the mobile's 360 degree of freedom.

On top of that, unlocking characters can be frustrating. You can earn them through LOOT BOXES with drop chances changing depending on what kind of loot box it is. So, as you earn "trophies" during your wins with different characters, you can unlock more characters through the free LOOT BOXES. Or, you can buy LOOT BOXES through the store with real money with "better" odds of earning characters. I say "better" with quotation marks because there's 2 DIFFERENT PAID LOOT BOXES WITH DIFFERENT DROP RATES. SO YOU PAY FOR EITHER A 96% CHANCE FOR COINS OR 90% CHANCE FOR COINS. AND THAT'S THE PAID LOOT BOXES. Of course, you can "earn" those premium currencies, but good luck with saving up for them.

Further, the characters can be "upgraded" with you needing both COINS and PUZZLE PIECES that you get through, you guessed it, LOOT BOXES. And the more characters you have, the more diffused the chance of you getting the puzzle pieces for the character you want. Of course, you can buy coins with the premium currency, but you can't buy those puzzle pieces.

Finally, each character has "abilities" that change things like increased damage during certain conditions that you can equip. You unlock a slot at level 5 and again at level 8 of a character when you upgrade them with the aforementioned PUZZLE PIECES, so good luck with that. You get one for free, but you earn them through those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOOT BOXES. I've still yet to unlock of the other abilities aside from the free one I got way back when. And they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STACK!

My Experience
==================
I gotta admit, I bought the $10 pack for loot boxes for the off chance to get the character I want: Master Cat. And I did way before I was supposed to be able to get them from the free packs and I'm having a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ blast. But I've heard of people paying $50 and getting ♥♥♥♥.

It's a fun Castlevania-esque game that has time-stopping. Would highly recommend.

Starbound is just limitless. I can just go like, "Carp, no more for this planet..." then press the random planet button to visit another and *BAM* --More stuff to do!
Even better if you do a roleplay server that adds more lore from the current one!
