it's really bad.
the story fools you into thinking there will be closure or payoff, note from my game hours I gave this plenty of chances.

THERE IS NO CLOSURE
THERE IS NO PAYOFF
THERE IS NO ENDING

don't let the almost-good writing fool you, this game is really weak.

now onto the gameplay which I can sum up in two words:
"just no"

its a large, slow, soulless open world with no content or variation. the game has a totally meaningless crafting system, instead of you just finding the stuff you need.

it's ALL PROCEDURAL which just doesn't work in this genre. why would you make the game "re-playable" when there's nothing to return to?
I'd MUCH prefer this game if it had hand crafted maps and some sense of design, as it stands it's a mess.

update: more hours played, can now speak to how garbage the difficulty curve is.
you won't once die until the 4th world, when suddenly everything has ranged attacks.
on the 5th world, not a single weapon deals satisfactory damage.

DO NOT get the axe "upgrade". the extra damage is useless cos most enemies late game have health stages rather than HP. it can't hit more than one stage regardless of upgrades. the "upgrade" can't be disabled, adds huge cooldown to your 3rd attack and makes it like a snooker cue instead of an axe.

nice enough idea, graphics are spot on.

game lacks control re-binding, so you need to scroll though an entire weapon list every time you change guns.
the guns themselves are underwhelming and unsatisfying to use (I'm most of the way though the game using only the axe, bosses included)

the map design is where this game really falls down, the levels are tedious, repetitive and maze-like, with little to no point of reference. "secrets" are arbitrary walls which need to be interacted with, a mechanic that defo could have died in 1991. being inspired by these games should not mean re-creating their flaws.

the enemies are weak and pathetic, their animations are cool and the art is still great, but the actual gameplay is very weak.

oh and the music is horrific, monotonous dreary and utterly lacking. no idea why they thought anyone would want to purchase it separately.

shockingly ♥♥♥♥ game no idea why I wasted so many hours on it.

do you find a lack of RNG in your grind fests?

if so this game is for you, tonnes of grinding and RNG straight out the bat.

really fun, late game suffers with major balance issues and can be a substantial grind, but the game is great on the whole and the compulsion loop is spot on.

its alright, 100% re-used assets in 2 kinda-cool-ish heists.
if you like Cook Off you'll like this.

under developed and under-tested but meh, it is what it is.

not trash, and only just worth the fiver, but it's more of a charity buy than anything else as you probably already know.

come on folks, buy this mediocre DLC and help fund PD3.

arguably better than the first save for a few gripes.
The story is sublime and audio logs just as fascinating as before.
gameplay is vastly improved with MUCH nicer guns and gunplay.
hacking minigame is much better.

I don't like the changes to the map and the controls (right up to the end of the game I healed instead of crouching regularly)

research camera is LESS tedious but still tedious..

lastly, I had one crash so can confirm the issue others are discussing is still present if (for me) not game breaking at all.

while I don't love that the progression ended up being "hunt the fragments" it is defo true to say this is a great example of
EARLY ACCESS DONE RIGHT.

It's an amazing game with a varied and wonderful ecosystem.

If I hadn't played it in early acess and known "another way" I probably wouldn't have a single complaint about it.

easily one of the best survival / exploration games I've played.

oh, and they actually balanced the hunger/thirst system, a rare feat. you don't ever get to forget about it, but it's never a tedious chore.

incredibly easy, very little variation, poorly balanced and no end game.

fab example of an early access game that was abandoned and declaired as "finished"

its easy af so noobs love it.

go play Cities, Tropico or Anno if you want a real city management game.

heck, setting AoE2 to easy, ignoring the enemies and just building a town in that is far more varied and challening than this.

I _really_ wanted to like this and I gave it a fair shot.

It's laggy, dead and the fundimental changes to quake just aren't welcome.

new game mode added is more of the same, new "hero" added is more of the same.

if I see a patch adding "classic mode" which removes all the differences between characters and creates A REAL QUAKE EXPERIANCE, I'll be back in a heartbeat.
