Buckle up, here is the enthralling story of my leisure turned ordeal, unknowingly battling not the game but the game design.

Sorry, Exit 8, we could have been friends, but you chose to get refunded back to your parents.

The game took me much longer to beat than otherwise necessary, all due to the ill-conceived invisible triggers that were intended to advance or reset your progression.

Knowing not what the anomalies specifically could be, I was perusing every inch of the pathway, including the "no smoking" signs at the start, the possible subtle cracks on the walls, the yellow line and its distance to the wall, uneven tiling, all sorts of things.

Unbeknownst to me, the developer kindly put the triggers that would check if I found the anomaly or not, not maybe at the corners, not at the center of the transition, or anywhere else, but almost at the position where I spawned.

So, for almost 2h straight I was both correctly identifying the anomaly and unknowingly crossing one of the invisible barriers in the process, almost always resetting the progress.

The funniest thing is, the progress resetting every time was making me think that I missed something really inconspicuous, reinforcing the pattern of searching even more thoroughly.

After a while, when I'd already discovered all the anomalies, it finally occurred to me that it can't be me overlooking something.

At some point I noticed the small lag crossing some point, as if a new location was being loaded.

"Oh. "

— I thought to myself.

So it was not my fault all along.

Anyways, as the short stupor subsided, I went on and quickly finished the game in one go, easily identifying all the anomalies while avoiding the triggers.

The No Exit 8 - a great self-doubt simulator, would totally recommend playing if not for the time I spent bulging my eyes out for no reward other than finally ending the suffering
