If you liked Pony Island you'll love this. Inscryption is hard to describe without spoiling it, all I can really say without ruining key aspects of the game is that it is a fantastic deck building game with escape room puzzle elements mixed in.

From what I have seen most reviews that are negative comment on the length of the game, I agree that it is disappointingly short. Upon finishing the game I instantly wanted more. As an avid fan of Lovecraft (A life long member of the HP Lovecraft Historical Society) I'm happy to say that the expertly crafted island of Darkwater lives up to the expectations that anyone who has read any of Lovecrafts works would hold, it's as if they brought the man back from oblivion to tell one last story. Obviously if you are keen to the idea of a game set in an alternate Innsmouth stop reading this review and start this game; however, if you aren't sold simply by the idea the game has interesting enough mechanics. The sanity system which can drastically influence your preception of the story gives the game plenty of replayability. The exploration is engaging as most things you find in the enviroment do give some insight into the lives of residents of Darkwater and the dark activities of some of them be it as insignificant as a book informing you of their interests or a clue of where to go or what to do next. All of this being said I must say that this isn't a game for everyone. In terms of gameplay you primarily have exploration, occasionally a puzzle. If neither of those two types of gameplay aren't of much interest to you, you likely won't enjoy the first half of the game. The second half of the game in which you spend a decent amount of time avoiding various enemies such as asylum guards and cultists in a stealth puzzle type of gameplay, but also closer to then end some very limited gunplay is brought in.

Overall, if you are incredibly interested in Lovecrafts mythos play this game. If you aren't necessarily interested in the Lovecraftian aspect but enjoy mystery and don't mind a slow pacing and a short play time play this game. If neither of those things sound like your cup of tea you likely won't enjoy this game very much. Remember: "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."

2 Hours played yet still only managed to see a single bug after starting a little less than an hour after release. Genuinely fun, as well as incredibly pleasing to look at.
