Terraria is quite possibly one of the best indie games ever made in my opinion. The things you can do in this game, especially since the 1.2 update, are dang near limitless. All the different accessories you can find and armor and weapons you can craft along with the 2-D sidescrolling perspective gives a huge Metroidvania feel, which basically means you are free to move around the world as you wish to complete the game, and there is no explicitly set order to do or obtain things in. As you play through the game you can constantly upgrade your character's abilities in both offense, defense, and maneuverability. You can get a double jump, a wall jump ability (which allows you to Mega Man X your way up walls), Rocket Boots, Dashing, Grapple Hooks, magic spells, all kinds of swords, bows, guns, and armors. There is a massive variety of enemies to fight including 13 bosses. If that wasn't enough for you, you can also set up a home base or village where you can be safe and all kinds of NPCs can live. If there is one complaint I have about the game it's that it can be a bit overwhelming. There's so much to do and its all up to the player to decide how to do it. On top of that, the game doesn't do a good job of explaining some of the finer details. The game can tell you what you can make out of certain materials with the first NPC, the guide, and the housing checker can tell you what a house is missing to be suitable. Past that, the game tells you very little. However, if you are curious about something, there are great Wikis out there for the game that can tell you just about everything you need to know. This game offers players massive amounts of freedom. Some people will be drawn to it, others will be deterred, but everyone should try it, especially with its $9.99 price tag and occasional discount. This game gets a 9.5/10 from me.
