Play this game blind, you won't regret it.

But if you an idea of what playing this game is like: Imagine you are in a 22 minute time loop where every loop your mind gets blown away in new and interesting ways every single time, where even just sitting there and watching the world pass by will be cause for revelation. Just play this game.

Early Access Review
Love this game, but cannot play it because you cannot pause when playing solo. Even after major updates still no pause feature making the game unplayable for anyone who may need to walk away for a few minutes from time to time.

I feel that the price tag is basically paying for the excellent voice acting. The game itself is a lot of fun and feels very immersive. You end up feeling like you are in a time loop so expect the sort of madness and frustration you'd get from being in a time loop.

No direct spoilers but I'll talk about my feelings for the ending here:
The dawning horror of solving the puzzle and realizing what it all meant left me disgusted and empty. But the feelings were the type that leaves you laying awake in bed unable to fall asleep, just thinking about it all. The themes of the game are mature, but not everything needs to have a happy ending, not everything needs to make you feel better at the end. Sometimes the horrific realization of how terrible it all is and laying awake at night just thinking about it all is reward enough. I can't recommend this game to everyone, but I loved it and it will probably haunt me. 10/10

A lovely relaxing resource collecting/base building game where the plot is to meet people and then they make you cry.

I got this game 12 years ago, despite it saying I only have 42 minutes played I've played much more than that as I've played the game to completion at least twice.

Combat is fun, the story is interesting, morality is much more grey than black and white, devils aren't that bad and angels are ♥♥♥♥♥, your boot is your single strongest weapon. What's not to like?

The "Might and Magic" part of the title can be confusing because this game doesn't play like any other Might and Magic game, not the RPG and definitly not the strategy game, but I've had more fun with this title than any other Might and Magic title in spite of that.

The only issue I have is that I still cannot make sense of the intro. You have a master who sends you on some errand, but that is quickly forgotten as you are plunged into the story and you never have to think about him again. He gives you a "companion" for the journey, who turns out to be very important but what? What did he know? Was this all an accident?

I guess I'll never know. But this game was awesome, and its combat paved the way for what would eventually become Dishonored.

Each game made by Ubisoft is a stepping stone that lead to Odyssey, and Odyssey is a stepping stone to whatever they make next. Each time they tweak gameplay elements intent to perfect the open world action adventure game.

I've enjoyed this game thus far (about 33 hours in), and will continue to enjoy it. The game is quite massive, with plenty of things to do. Instead of the old Assassin's Creed combat system of Counter-Kill everything until no one else is standing, we've got an RPG system that at first I wasn't too sure of but I've grown to like. You've got Far Cry crafting, and even elements of the Shadow of Mordor/War Nemesis system, much to my delight.

At the start of the game you are given the choice between two characters, Alexios, and Kassandra. This choice is permanent and cannot be changed (similar to For Honor Single Player). The game dialogue is written in a way to make this choice mostly unimportant, as most dialogue is gender neutral. I chose Kassandra, and the fact that I'm a badass woman running around in ancient Greece is never brought up. Romance in the game is shallow, after doing the deed you never speak to them again unless they show up in a quest.

Dialogue of randomly generated quests don't always line up with what they want you to do, giving them a gamey feel, making it obvious that they are randomly generated Everyone seems to know who I am, yet don't care that I've massacared countless of their fellow soldiers just a moment ago; if I'm not actively doing something illegal they let me go where I please. The "war" is very superficial in that the tide of battle only ever goes one way, then flips to the other side, blue banners switched with red or vice versa, then repeats.

Black Flag was my favorite game in the series and this game has the Black Flag naval element to it; Functionally the same but lacking the visual elements of gunpowder and is restricted to the much smaller ships of the time period; a valiant effort at recreating what made Black Flag great. But don't be confused, while Black Flag felt like a Naval Battale Sim with a distracting land portion that just got between you and more naval battles, Odyssey finds a balance between the two with fun naval battles (albiet not quite as great as Black Flag), and a beautiful and engaging land portion.

The game contains microtransactions, but you cannot purchase "loot crates" with money. Instead loot crates are the in-game method used to obtain the gear that is otherwise only obtained from the store. These "loot crates" require a special currency only obtained through daily and weekly randomly generated quests (and are clearly marked), as well as finding the currency in the game world (albiet in a limited amount). Be careful when obtaining special gear though, as they are leveled to you at the time you get them and would require you to upgrade them at the blacksmith to keep up with your level; and resources still feel limited where I am in the game.

The game is definitely an improvement upon previous iterations of the series. I've been having a blast with this game and look forward to seeing where they take it next.

At first, the game drew me in with all of the things to do, it is essentially a grindy crafting sim. The gameplay loop creats a very effective feeling of constantly running out of time, but never actively punishes you for failing, which I enjoyed. It was like crack for my ADHD brain. It is absolutely 100% a grind but I knew that coming into it and actually enjoy grindy games at times.

However, the game feels unfinished, and literally taunts you with unfinished content, completely self-aware of how unfinished it is, smugly flaunting the fact as some kind of joke. The game is chock full of smug jokes that often aren't funny; all dialogue is written with the same dry humor that it starts to get irritating. It gives the feeling that all dialogue, every NPC interaction, and every quest given, is just an excuse to drive the gameplay. Like gameplay came first and then dialogue and quests were written after the fact in one hazy coffee-filled afternoon with the intent to drive the player through doing everything in the game. The "plot", if you can call it that, is, in a word, stupid. It's also sexist but I don't care to explain that.

My experience with the game was that it was genuinely fun for some time, but became increasingly frustrating as you run into the main gameplay loop. The game is buggy and unpolished, unfinished making me want more yet dialogue where characters break the 4th wall talking about the missing content gives the impression that there isn't going to be any more, of a game rushed to completion, with all the stray ends plugged and shipped because it was "good enough".

I didn't finish the game. By the time I was a good way through the main gameplay loop and realized that everything I saw was all there was, all interest in finishing was drained away. I opted to watch a "Lets Play" on YouTube for the ending, and I really shouldn't be surprised that it was just as dissapointing as everything else leading up to it. After watching the ending I literally said, out loud to my empty room, "what the f***".

To summarize, the game is an excellent idea but terribly executed. It draws you in with the promise of what could be... then continuously dashes your hopes into the rocks until you float lifeless downstream.

This game is about exploration. You are drawn into a world with a rich and intrigueing history, and a mystery that pulls you along. As you explore, you find new wonders and new things, made even more wonderful with the knowledge that you are the first to have found it; as the universe is so vast that much of it remains unexplored by anyone else who played the game before you!

But after a time, you realize that you've discovered everything. You learn the limits of the procedural generation and everything begins to look the same. What once held mystery becomes much more boring. Exploration is a lot less enjoyable when you know what you'll find at the other end; you no longer explore, and you begin the grind.

You travel from planet to planet to find resources that'll help you on your journey, thinking that maybe if you got closer to the center you'll find new things. But after a dozen hours of jumping from black hole to black hole, everything still looks the same.

The game becomes apparent for what it is; it's a shell. A big empty husk that that feels unfinished. There is, quite frankly, not much to do. The lack of things to do is obsfucated by the amount of time it takes to do them. But at 40 hours I realized I had nothing to do. This game has a lot of potential, but so far has felt like a waste of time. The big mystery, when you discover it for what it is, is a huge let down.

The game is interesting, and has potential. So I'll keep my eye on it for future content updates. But the original release of this game was terrible. Content is severly lacking, and it took forever for them to fix game breaking bugs. At the 44 hour mark I still had severe framerate drops that require a hard reset to fix. This game felt more like an indie game, not a AAA title that would warrant a $60 price tag. Unlike an indie game, the complete silence from the developers along absolutely no word on anything resembling future content really just forces me to walk away from the game and warn others to stay away.

To people not familiar with Prototype 1, I recommend it, it's a power fantasy and a lot of fun. There are references to the first game but it's not needed to have a fun time. This game is a Power Fantasy and it does that in spades, you feel powerful. Enjoy. My review below is for people who have played and enjoyed the plot and storyline of the original Prototype.

To fans of the original Prototype, this game is about the same. It's a big more organized, with a bit more work put into it. But it has the same progression and feels very much like you are just playing the original Prototype with a few extras added in. If you feel a "Prototype itch" this may be a decent game to pick up if it was heavily discounted, but I generally do not recommend this game. I do not recommend it because the completion of this game left a bad taste in my mouth. I enjoyed the original Protoype, and loved the story and the plot. But this game throws it all away. Because (Spoilers) Alex Mercer, the original protagonist, is rewritten as a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy idiot-ball carrying villian who actively pursues the very thing you fought to stop in the original game. Which, as someone who played the first Prototype who enjoyed and got to understand the complex personality of Alex Mercer, I find to be a complete cop-out, and this just thoroughly destroyed my enjoyment of the Prototype franchise.
