Spyro is awesome, iconic game and the remaster is almost fantastic. Unfortunately the PC port has some glaring showstopper bugs if you have a high refresh rate monitor, where Spyro slides on surfaces and controls poorly or certain enemies/level terrain doesn't trigger correctly if you run it above 30 FPS. This doesn't affect all setups but it did affect my system and made the game unplayable on PC. Really disappointing. Get it on console instead.

Story, visuals and general ambience and feel are so good, they outweigh the admittedly disappointing open world experience by some margin. It's just a shame, I think if CDPR had waited another year or two to finish the game properly and flesh out the parts of the game that are clearly incomplete or cut, they would have had a genuine 10/10 masterpiece.

Still might just be the best single player story ever made though.

I'm a few levels in with all collectibles so far on Ultra-Violence now, hopefully enough gameplay for a good review. No spoilers.

It's a lot of fun but a lot more resource management and strategy is required than previous games, making it much harder and more involved. The game does a very good job telling you this, but players who are just looking for a casual run and gun experience are unlikely to enjoy or even be able to finish this game. If you love the extra challenge and having to think all the time, you'll probably love this. If you just want to shoot a lot of demons and cruise through, you'll probably hate it.

It now requires you to solve puzzles to progress through the maps, the movement requirements are a lot more advanced with monkey bars, double jumps and double dashes often mandatory to reach difficult areas. Demon fights now feel like violent chess matches as you need to prioritise targets and constantly monitor your resources to plan which demons you will chainsaw, which you will flame belch, which to ice bomb, remember which enemies have weaknesses to what and constantly juggle it all while forever being on the move. You are required to use all the guns, you can't just shotgun your way through everything, there isn't enough ammo. It's balanced pretty well, but not everyone will enjoy it, it can be a bit of a chore.

Outside of the core gameplay elements... the music is amazing, period. Slayer Gates are very punishing and pretty much only intended for veteran players but are in return extremely rewarding and fun to play. There is more lore and cutscenes than previous games, they're good and Doomguy is still a loveable ♥♥♥♥ to everyone as he should be, but again if you're just wanting a constant run and gun, they are all skippable so it's no problem. Collectibles and secrets are a lot better now, it's clearer if you've missed anything and tools are available to go back before you finish a level for them, which is fantastic for completionists like me. The menus are a bit better laid out than 2016 for upgrades and codex information.

My biggest complaint? The Doot Revenant skin doesn't apply in the single player campaign, only the Slayer skins do. Almost refund worthy.

A fantastic game ruined by lack of support for players in Australia. No servers exist in the Oceania region, so your ping is always over 200ms which is absolutely no good for a shooter like this. I can't recommend it as a result, as much as I really want to.
