Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition is a properly amazing metroidvania-style action-adventure RPG that definitely catches you in its grip and grinds your face into the ground.

The game uses an absolutely breathtaking soundtrack and sound design, with wonderful choir ensembles and plenty of orchestrated instruments in beautiful harmony, it really sets the tone and mingles incredibly well with the very impressive art design. Parallax is properly utilized, the level design is interesting and encourages the player to explore and gain new abilities, and the game is challenging but not in a way where the character feels too lenient or punished.

The story, oh the story! As this is a review, I'm not going to post spoilers, but tied with everything else within the game, Moon Studios reminds us that when all elements of a game are balanced and perfectly matched, you are no longer making a game, rather a playable art.

Lastly, the gameplay itself. A lot of modern titles are riddled with "game looks great" or has specific elements that are desirable but it simply isn't fun. Ori's controls are responsible, fun, easy to use and the abilities encourage positive exploration and creative uses to solve the puzzles of level design.

Out of over 1,000 games, this is definitely the best in my library. Hit right in the feels and the gamer spot.

10/10.
