Early Access Review
I'm using this to retro-ify the keyarts and character art for my JRPG. My wonderful character artist has a more modern digital style, but the game itself is retro-styled, so this app was a must-have for us. The sliders are intuitive to use, and the various options make sense quickly.
I'm sure I could use Aseprite to do these things with some work, but for the convenience alone I'm glad PixelOver is available. Dithering, gamma values, modulation, indexation... The only options out of those which I've seen in Aseprite are dithering and indexation, but they aren't nearly as intuitive to set up there as they are in PixelOver.
So, overall, I would recommend this software, especially for digital artists who are more experienced with raster/vector art than they are with pixel art. Though, as a friendly tip, you should only give each color four shades maximum in your palette, e.g. if you have four colors in the image, then you should have a 16x1 palette file, with four shades for each color. If you have larger color ramps, or unevenly sized ones, then it becomes difficult to get the filters working evenly across your entire indexed image.
