The game is great, the publisher not so much.

If Monster Train was Slay the Spire + Tower Defense then this game is Slay the Spire + Action RPG Positioning. Shiny Shoe might be onto something! It's very much still a deckbuilding card game and if you're at all interested in those types of games this is an excellent one.

The developers are listening to feedback and updating frequently, having just added complete offline play support and removed previously poorly received cosmetic monetization strategies. The game seems to always be evolving in a positive direction and I'm here for it!

An incredible feat and a culmination of learnings from many years of making better and better CRPGs. It's a little rough around the edges especially approaching the tail end of the game, but Larian have created a fully-realized Dungeons and Dragons campaign filled with an astounding level of detail and reactivity. Whether you're a seasoned vet or a newcomer to the genre, it's a game you can so easily get lost in. It's truly magical.

Absolutely recommended. It's so sad to think the failure of Marvel's Avengers caused this one to fly under the radar for so many people including myself. Guardians of the Galaxy tells an incredible story and is one of the best-looking games I've played in some time. If you have any interest in these characters at all, this is a must-buy. I also think if you're only familiar with the Guardians because of the MCU, you may be surprised to find you like the characters in this game better actually! The balancing between comedy and emotional dramatic moments is handled much more gracefully and allows the contrast between a laugh or cry moment to hit harder.

Unfortunately it's plagued by a lack of polish in the technical department; I encountered lots of frequent small bugs and crashes during my playtime. Most of the crashes went away when I disabled raytracing but it was so disappointing to have to do that because it really does look amazing. The bugs were always really small things, like animations bugging out or getting stuck in map geometry (the game detects when this happens and relocates you so not a big deal) but they really do detract from the immersion when they happen.

The gameplay is serviceable, especially knowing that it is a narrative-focused game first and foremost. Combat is pretty fun, though not very deep, and encounters don't stick around too long to get boring. Exploration is a vehicle to take in the sights and hear conversations between the Guardians that flesh their personalities and rich histories out, with some collectible hunting elements that requires the player to toggle Starlord's helmet to find secrets in the environment. It's fun to collect different outfits (and trinkets that unlock new conversations) for each Guardian, but it's a shame that the visor vision is so needed to collect them. You spend most of the game using it and seeing the visuals of these beautiful environments completely washed away with the heavy visual filters applied by the helmet.

Don't let the nitpicking above deter you from playing the game however. This is a genuine hidden gem that I think more people should check out. It was a financial failure for Eidos Montreal but it's a real labor of love and it's so clear that the writers understood what makes a fantastic sci-fi adventure with a ragtag group of lovable characters growing closer together.

Only recommended if you've enjoyed the game before and wanted to get a hit of nostalgia. Otherwise, I would say this is not a very good game and is not really worth playing at full price.

Decent remaster, it looks and runs great with plenty of control options and quality of life improvements over the original game, but at the end of the day it's still a lot of the same game designed for a portable device underneath. Runs well on Steam Deck and I think that's the best way to play it for sure!

The enemy and environment variety are both laughable because the original game had to fit on the old UMDs for the PSP, and gameplay is delivered in extremely short bite-sized chunks for on-the-go gaming. It ends up feeling so tired and repetitive to play through.

On top of that, the story is terrible, featuring an overacting villain whose dialogue is 90% reciting melodramatic dialogue from a play that doesn't exist that you never see. The existing characters seem poorly utilized or hamfisted and the new characters are all pretty unlikable caricatures. In my opinion, the game is a failure as a prequel because I don't think it really brings any additional appreciation for the original story or develops anything meaningful on its own ( especially considering you watch the Nibelheim Incident which we have seen before and then all the newly introduced characters die and then the game ends). For a game on the PSP over a decade ago, this may have passed for some, but as a 50 dollar game today, it's really schlocky.

Overall, though I 100%ed the game to be thorough, I can't really say I recommend subjecting yourself to 300 repetitive side missions and a main story that is absolutely brutal to sit through. Super fans need only apply!

This is a game that couldn't possibly live up to the hype that the marketing team at CDPR generated, but even with that in mind it doesn't meet tempered expectations. Cyberpunk 2077 is a jumbled mess that falls way short of meeting the quality and level of detail found in the games that clearly inspired it.

Everything about this game is half-baked. Where is the character customization in a future where people can express themselves in ways beyond what is currently humanly possible? Why do the police show up behind me after committing a crime for which there are no witnesses? Where are the branching possibilities that stem from different choices I can make? Where are the faction relationships that could be built while I do odd jobs for all kinds of different groups? Such questions only scratch the surface on Cyberpunk's shortcomings, without even addressing the plethora of technical issues one might encounter consistently throughout.

The care and thoughtfulness of CDPR's past games is completely absent, and the game reeks of cut corners at every turn. I spent a lot of time playing this game to see if I missed something but if it were any other developer I would never give this the time of day. Maybe if they had another decade, Cyberpunk 2077 could be worth recommending. Until then, go play Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Fallout: New Vegas.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon plays like a solid amalgamation of classic JRPGs: the combat is timing-based like a Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi, the character development and camaraderie is akin to the recent Final Fantasy and Persona games, and the whacky enemy variety complete with silly names could just as easily appear in any of the Dragon Quest games. If you are a fan of any of these JRPGs mentioned and are itching for a game like that but set in present-day Japan, this is it.

Like previous Yakuza games, the main story is a serious Japanese crime drama filled with twists and turns, while the side content is brimming with absurdity and whimsical comedy. The story as usual with this series is great and introduces a whole new cast of likable characters both good and evil. There are some fan favorites that come back, but Like a Dragon is a "soft-reboot" of the Yakuza series so these returning characters don't really require you to have known them from past games. The major scenes are lengthy but incredibly well-acted (though I only played in Japanese with subtitles). It may be slow to ramp up, but when the action gets going the story becomes really engaging!

On top of the big gameplay overhaul, there are a lot of great quality of life improvements such as saving anywhere, taxiing from anywhere, having substories marked on the map, and walking into buildings with no additional loading screen just to name a few. It really feels like a game made for this year! Additionally due to being a turn-based game, this is the most Keyboard+Mouse-friendly Yakuza game to-date.

In terms of negatives, the main thing is that by being a JRPG, you get all the same shortcomings of these classic JRPGs: repetitive random encounters in the open world, difficulty spikes towards the end might necessitate some tedious grinding, and mild stretches of archaic underground sewer dungeon crawling. If you have doubts about sinking your teeth into a JRPG, or you generally dislike JRPGs, this is very much one so do keep that in mind.

Overall, this is a great entry to the Yakuza series for new and returning players alike. The gameplay is completely different, the main characters and main setting are completely different, but it has the same excellent Yakuza balance of serious and goofy that the series is known for. If you like the series or have never played a Yakuza game but enjoy JRPGs, don't sleep on this!

Another instant classic from the folks at Supergiant Games. Intense dungeon crawling action, a wonderful world of colorful characters and stories from Greek mythology, and a banging soundtrack come together to create a diabolically addictive game. There's accessibility options to ease the difficulty for those who just want to experience the story, and plenty of customization to amp up the challenge for regular fans of the roguelike genre, so there truly is something for everyone!

Each Greek god and goddess can put a twist on your abilities and combine in unique and creative ways such that no two sessions are the same, and the game is built in such a way that you're always progressing either the story or your character abilities every time. If you're looking for a romping good time, Hades is definitely a solid choice.

A wonderful Metroidvania set in a world brimming with paranormal stories that have all the same weird and creepy qualities as the SCP Foundation stories that inspired them. It's a high bar to clear, but it's easily up there as one of Remedy's best.

+ Fascinating lore and worldbuilding aplenty
+ Intense combat and rewarding exploration
+ Stunning visuals
+ Very accommodating accessibility options for tweaking the difficulty, thumbs up for accessibility
- Much of the interesting side-stories are told through collectible documents and videos, which can stifle the pacing
- Enemy variety wears thin towards the end of the game
