i like this game a lot, it's a good time. the gunplay feels fun and for the most part, i really like the way you unlock new guns. the receiver system is neat, a bit grindy at times, but neat overall. i particularly like that it forces you to use guns you'd never use. the gunsmith affords you opportunities to customize AND tune any gun the way you desire.

the maps are...okay. none of the maps new to this game are particularly good, with the best ones being above average at best. i think what ruins them is the spawn logic that is currently in the game, or lack thereof. spawns make absolutely zero sense, this completely ruins the pacing of the maps and the game itself.

regardless, these are rather minor issues. what makes me not recommend this game, even if i'm having fun you may ask? well, to put it simply, this game was released half-baked. MW2 is littered with technical issues. these range from minor annoyances, such as visual bugs, to completely game-ruining issues such as CONSTANT CTDs.

yes, this game CONSTANTLY crashes. i have yet to play a game that crashes this much in my entire life, and i've played quite a bit of heavily modded skyrim and oblivion. another weird issue is that turning DLSS ON makes your game look absolutely terrible. this makes no sense.

until IW polishes this game's technical issues, i'd stay as far away from MW2 as possible. we as consumers need to let the suits up in their ivory towers know that we don't appreciate them dumping their unfinished games onto us for a premium price.

would have loved to try this game, but no matter what i tried, the game would CTD upon launch with a pop-up saying "fatal error". furthermore, any and all research into this issue was less than fruitful, to say the least. thank you bandai namco, very cool

I might be one of the very few individuals who enjoys the FPS gameplay added into the game, but I still cannot recommend it.

First and foremost, the lack of optimization is quite irritating. I have a Ryzen 7 3700x, an EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra, and 32 gigs of RAM, yet the game still runs like crap. When on foot, at most, I'll get 60-70 frames. During encounters with a lot of NPCs (e.g. combat zones, large planetary settlements) I'll get 40-50 fps MAX.

Other miscellaneous gripes with the game include the lack of mission variety (missions are often just slight variations on go here and get a thing or go here and kill a person or group of people), the balance (or lack thereof) of the various guns (if it isn't the sniper, the shotgun, the plasma pistol, or the rocket launcher, don't bother), and of course, the absurd amount of grinding you need to do to upgrade and then fully engineer your gear.

To me though, the absolute worst part of Odyssey is the fact that they decided to completely overhaul the UI. There was literally nothing wrong with the UI in Horizons. However, there are some nice touches added to the UI by Odyssey, such as being able to view missions in stations by mission type more easily (e.g. trade, combat, etc), and being able to plot a route to a system just by holding down space or mouse one. Also, you can now see your shield's percentage of health very easily.

The upgrades to the UI end there however. Every other change is a complete downgrade. The general look and aesthetic of the UI and the new layout/look of the menus are downright disgusting to look at and are vastly more complicated to use than their Horizons counterparts. The outfitting and galaxy map UI are both especially heinous. The outfitting UI is so bad, that it was (and still is) possible to sell your engineered modules when you merely meant to store them. This would NEVER happen with the Horizons outfitting UI. I'm not quite sure what prompted FDEV to even make these changes, as the UI was completely fine in Horizons.

Overall, Odyssey is a direct downgrade to Horizons, a now free expansion. Maybe this will change in the future, but for now, save your cash. You will genuinely have a worse experience playing Odyssey than you will playing Horizons, even if you intend on never touching the FPS gameplay added in Odyssey.
