This game is an absolute throwback blast. What Wolfenstein: The New Order wishes it were.

It's the classic doom with upgrade trees, a modern engine and executions. It is truly the perfect modern FPS.

The fact that this game is negatively reviewe, while trash like Bioshock Infinite or The New Order are lauded as "amazing" shooter games, should be a constant reminder that mainstream games journalists have no idea what is entertaining or fun.

If you liked RE4 but not so much RE5, the AI partner is much improved and it's a blast start-to-finish with four separate campaigns with tons of stunning set pieces and ridiculously over the top moments.

It's quite obvious most negative reviews are from people who got stuck on the first mission -- which, I will admit, is slightly less forgiving than Chapter 2.. but certainly not anything that should have people rage-quitting and leaving poor reviews on what is an amazing product that obviously had time and real care poured into it's creation.

It's unique (especially in the modern era of gaming where something challening and interesting is viewed as 'weird' and 'too difficult'), intriguing, and presents you with a lot of ethical choices that most other games wouldn't have the courage or storytelling ability to even go near. The graphics are throwback beauty, and the music is well-crafted and suits each scene, as dark and twisted as the game can get... the music is right there the entire time, to set up the appropriate mood of tension and despair.

If you are interested in games that make you think, that challenge you as a gamer, or are just plain bored with the average 'fetch quest simulators' that pass as RPGs and 'enemy wave' FPS games and yearn for a return to the days of Maniac Mansion or I Have No Mouth (though this isn't quite a straightforward point-and-click adventure game -- keep that in mind when going in, this game is hard to draw parallels to).. well, give it a shot on-sale, at least. I picked it up as part of Humble Bundle's current deal (paid $7.00 to get the 2nd tier) and this is by far the best game included in a solid bundle.

Only issue is, it's a bit fast paced... Just under 2 hours in and I'm already finshed Chapter 2 and starting 3. Then again, at sale price it's not an issue - but it's one of those indie games that some people might regret buying at full price. Me, I appreciate a developer who takes chances, and Devolver Digital is one of the most solid publishers out there today.

Editting this review as I just now completed both the main story, as well as the amazingly well-done (far more simplistic in gameplay and lacking the challenge that some of the main game's missions had - but as a storytelling device it brings up all sorts of interesting concepts that will have the philosophical types out there appreciating the thought exercises and the ideas that the DLC, as well as the game at whole, presents) DLC mission, and I must say it is well worth the price I paid (admittedly far less than retail, given I got it in a bundle) and anyone who appreciates a unique game that really does try to be different and manages to, if you take the time to actually read and contemplate the dialogue being played out, actually introduce some very intriguing ideas about existence and reality... well, anyone who enjoys a game that is more than just a series of scenes strung together to justify a set of gameplay mechanics ought to enjoy this.

Games like this are the reason I pay a lot of attention to games on Steam that get 70-79% ratings and the like. A lot of them are just average flak in an ocean of games, but a lot of them are misunderstood gems that sail way above the average gamer's head. This is the latter.

Fabulous game; can't speak to the upgraded textures or AI because I skipped this game the first time around (console FPS games not being my cup of tea), but the water effects look beautiful, and the art design for Rapture is breath-taking and truly one-of-a-kind. I understand now why this game got all the love it did, as the gameplay is perfect -- the strategic layer of the different plasmids, the switching on-the-fly to pull off impressive combinations and take down an entire room with barely a scratch... It's fantastic, and I'm glad I waited until a decent remastered PC version, as I get the sense this would be nigh-impossible to play on a controller, and the graphics (though I can't tell how improved they are over the original) make this an incredibly immersive gaming experience.

Don't listen to the people complaining of crashes. Either they've got weak machines, or they're referring to the pre-patched version. I've played for hours (currently at the Smuggler's Den) without a single issue, crash, or visual glitch. Don't hesitate because of the mixed reviews. If you've got a decent rig, it seems they've fixed whatever issues there were.

The original PVK was perhaps my favourite of the classic Half-Life online mods that made up so much of my Junior High/High School 5am summer vacation gaming sessions (along with Action HL and DoD). A F2P spiritual successor isall I cou ever ask for. Gloriously oldschool although the classes naturally feel a tad different. You folks behind this are doing Odin's work.

Nothing like picking one of the Westernized factions and absolutely ruining a bunch of ignorant traditionalist samurai with naval artillery from off-screen.

One of my favourite non-Total War strategy games... But for Total War, the lack of unique and different cultures make it a bit more bland than Medieval or Rome or Empire.

Decent reskin of CoH, lacking the tactical depth. There's a multiplayer mod where you level up a hero and control a smaller squad that makes this old, low-pop game still worth a purchase on sale. Single player is a laugh, though.

I don't know when they patched this game to utterly change the UI, customization (hello mini-transaction cosmetic bullcrap!) and combat systen... but this game used to be a blast. Fortunately I got my money's worth before they screwed it up so badly. Nowadays... stay away. Sorry you missed the golden era.

Fantastic trance-enducing murder simulator. Killer soundtrack, manic gameplay, retro graphics and psychedelic, mind-bending story. One of the best indie games ever. The mask system adds some repeatability and if you're a topscore fanatic you should be kept plenty busy.

Amazing world building. Character arcs that you can actually get emotionally invested in. Decisions that matter and a ton of options for party building with new classes and interesting new characters. The ending isn't as satisfying as the first game but the game itself was even more enjoyable with the addition of the 'antihero' caravan with a ton of really cool party members.

I wish 3 could come out tomorrow. Seriously one of my favourite game series of all time and an unmatched gaming experience in terms of genremixing and world depth.
