Early Access Review
Simply the best roguelike rpg I’ve ever touched. Procedural generation can be a double-edged sword: too much and it makes a game feel soulless and arbitrary. Where Qud massively succeeds is perfectly balancing proc genned elements with handcrafted content to create a stupendous and dangerous world.

I have to single out the unwaveringly distinct voice of the writing as a high point - every single enemy description, item description, heck even descriptions of usually mundane objects like rock walls and plants fairly drip with atmosphere. Qud is an ancient place and you are a tiny creature rattling around inside of it.

For a game with such depth and complexity I found the new tutorial extremely helpful for getting into the fun of the game.

The prominence of permadeath in a game that supports such long playthroughs (40+ hours) does give me pause - it’s very bold, and I’ve found myself unable to resist savescumming at a few (ok fine, many) moments. But that’s ok!

This is a once in every 10 years sort of game, one I’ve found myself unable to put down, thinking of as I fall asleep at night, cooking up strategies and priorities. The price may seem high at first glance, but I assure you it’s worth every penny. I can only hope we see more of Qud past the 1.0 - I would like to live here a long, long time.

A tiny bit short and sparse for $20, but definitely a good get at $10 or $15. Generously checkpointed (sometimes even too generously) mini puzzles interspersed with a healthy amount of accidentally killing your partner makes this trek through the dark a treat.

*excellent* deduction puzzler that is significantly expanded and more challenging than polimines 1

One or two new puzzle mechanisms are introduced which are grand, but I found myself wishing I could easily review how they worked without needing to hunt down which of the 60 levels contained the tutorials for them. One tutorial used the phrase 'orthogonal' to describe how a puzzle worked, and I just could not grasp what that meant without some trial-and-error testing in various levels.

Overall - I adore the feeling that comes of hunting down and eliminating some invariant, only to discover the next clue prodding you forward - it's a wonderful conversation between the puzzle creator and player.

Tiny thing - I wish I could go in and out of fullscreen on any screen, not just the top level menu.

Love this work! I hope to see more :)

I was looking for an accessible roguelike deckbuilder to get into and this ticks every box. Lovely art, writing and difficulty scaling across many interesting characters. Lots to love

really cool game, but I honestly feel it's a little too difficult in a few different ways - the volume of enemies, bosses being a bit opaque, falls being punished as game overs... I mean for example, the boss of the very first area has a sort of puzzle element that requires you to make several jumps that risk falling and ending the run, all while contending with knockback from enemy fire. Even after you beat the first boss, the platform to the next area takes several seconds to appear during which you can fall through the 'floor' before it spawns in.... just small stuff that's kept me from getting to the second area more than once.

Awesome soundtrack, cool weapon selection (and more cool weapons on later levels?! argh)

Some really nice hand crafted counting puzzles. In a few places the number on the board seem to override the numbers on the edges of the board, and I didn't find that very intuitive... but I still really enjoyed this

Knocks it out of the park on so many levels as a visual novel, and as a narrative experience period. The writing is superb, well paced and researched. The art is stupendous. The score is excellent. The sexual content is *actually sexy*, grounded in the story and characters, and only comes as a payoff to an extensively established and developed relationship between the two main characters.

I adored the game's focus on family, work, interpersonal compatibility and coming out, all set against the background of 1980's Hong Kong in an effort that will undoubtedly stay with me for a very long time to come. Extremely special game, **play this one**

This is a great game but it has some dead ends that are basically game breaking bugs, and honestly I think the bar should be higher for re-releases of old games, especially by a publisher as large as disney/lucasfilm
