BattleBit Remastered, an indie game with a serious identity problem.

Imagine Battlefield, then imagine Squad, and then add a little bit of Roblox in the mix.
But actually wait a minute, we can remove Battlefield from the mix because it feels more like the Roblox game 'Phantom Forces', but it also feels like the Roblox game 'Bad Business'.
Well okay, so BattleBit Remastered feels like Phantom Forces, and Bad Business, and Squad.
But that doesn't seem right either, because Squad is a MilSim, and o'boy there's neither mil or sim in BBR, in fact it kinda just feels like you're running around shooting Remastered BB guns.
BattleBit Remastered feels and plays like a virtual Airsoft match. The gameplay consists of 7 steps:
Spawn, run, shoot, die, hold space, click on teammate, spam space, repeat
And while that was fun for the first 30 hours, you realize that the 'inspiration' of Squad slows the game in the wrong ways.

Essentially BattleBit Remastered is Squad, but then they removed all the parts that made Squad good, and left all the parts that only works with what they removed.
They want you to play strategically, but you aren't rewarded for that, and the grind to get new guns is so extreme that you're damn right I'm going to rush to the next objective, knowing I will lose the one I just got, hell maybe even lose the whole game, just to make sure I can have a new gun, so I can have a little fun, while not really having fun, because my new gun doesn't change the fact that the only way to progress in the game is to ignore all the strategic features, that the game didn't even tell me about in the first place.
Maybe you've already played the game, if you have, did you know that there's a rally point? You can access it as the 'Squad Leader', which in itself is a weird title because you aren't really leading anything, by holding middle mouse button (by default)
If you haven't played the game but you're thinking of buying it, make sure you got friends enough for a whole squad, because if you're unlucky and don't get SL, you are almost guaranteed not having a rally point, which leaves you with 2 options, leave the squad, make your own and play alone, or stick with the team sucks to suck.
You can't vote to take over the SL role, you can try and ask the current SL to promote you, but good luck with that, because the SL is far too busy running into combat, dying, instant giving up, respawn repeat, which is the only viable way to play

But why am I talking about a silly rally point for so long? Because of how spawning works, you can spawn on the points your team has, like you can in Battlefield, except if there's enemies on it, and not as in you can't spawn if 10 enemies are attacking the point, but as in, you can't spawn if a single enemy is ratting the point by hiding in a corner, even though the rest of your team (which could be 126v1) is on it, and so if you get just one teammate hiding on each of the enemies control points, GG's they can't spawn there.
So then you have one and a half option, option one is to spawn at main and run all the way to the front-line, which is boring because of how big these maps are, that is if you even make it there in the first place, option half is to spawn on your teammates, that option is only half an option, because you can only do that if they aren't in combat, which you're gonna wanna be if you want even a slight chance of progressing.
So the rally points are crucial to the game, but for some reason they don't tell you about it

And this is when we can get into the 'experimental gamemode' Frontlines
Which on paper is a really good gamemode, maybe even the best, the gamemode actually feels very finished, and so I'm starting to think the 'experimental' part is more the game itself than the gamemode
Frontlines tries to be the strategic gamemode, where the map is divided into smaller sections with their own points to capture, if you capture all the points the 'frontline' zone moves closer to the enemies main spawn, and gives you new points to capture, if the enemy captures all the points it moves closer to you.
But it certainly doesn't play like that, in it's current state they should call the gamemode 'Chase' because that is all you do.
Capture A, enemy captures B. Run to B, enemy runs to A, Capture B, enemy captures A, this goes on repeat for a bit until your team manages to capture both, now the points are B, C and D, but only for a short time, because as mentioned there's no reward for defending your point, so the team that captured B runs straight to C, but not fast enough because by the time they get there, the enemy has already captured B again, which means they hold all the points, which moves the zone back, so now you gotta run all the way back to capture B again, but by that time they captured A, and so the zone has moved even further, which means you have to run even further. The gamemode works super well, it's just that the game doesn't, or well it does, but you aren't rewarded for clutching a defense, or playing with your team at all, you're rewarded for running to the nearest point, capture it, and run to the next. The gamemode isn't experimental, the game is.

And with all this running the game sure does sound fast paced, which it is, but also not really, because again they are trying to be so many things, which just doesn't go hand in hand. You see they implemented a super neat feature which is as simple as bleeding, they probably also took that from Squad, but somehow they messed up that part as well, if you take enough damage you go into a bleed mode, which you're gonna wanna take care of or you die, that will slow you down for 5 seconds, and then it's time to move on, which don't forget you're gonna want to if you want more weapons, so you stand up, quick left peak right peak, no enemies, take off, out in the open see your next opportunity for cover, dash your wa.. and bam, you're dead to a camping sniper that doesn't have to worry about health because there's so many angles to camp in that you just switch positions when you take damage, but since you want to get new weapons you're playing as assault, which means you were left with no health after bandaging up, respawn try again. So assault isn't going to be the way, let's play medic then, wait a minute, you can use assault rifles as medic, but also SMGs, but also self defense weapons. So what's the point in playing assault? The medic has 20 bandages and unlimited heals, and of course you can heal yourself too, so that's the better option, but is it really tho? Because every time you bleed you're going to have to bandage up and heal yourself, and that is going to take you so long that by the time you start moving again, there's way more enemies, and you're dead. And so the game slows you down with the bleed, which there is no point to because when you start running again you're going to die, but if you play medic you're spending so much time healing yourself that you find yourself not really playing the game.

And honestly it's just frustrating how these amazing features have been made so badly, and work so against what the game is trying to be. There's just so many problems with this game, so many I'm struggling to remember them all, because the features that are problematic are so small that they only really annoyed me for the moment that it happened but then you're back at it trying to enjoy the game.

And it feels weird to say, but I think the game has gotten too much hype, not as in the game was overhyped, because the game could feel very good, the hype is just based on all these different mechanics that sells to different people for different reasons, leading to a playerbase that consists of casual, milsim and competitive players, all playing the game for the features that advertise to them, ignoring the features that doesn't. I'm running close to the character limit, 5/10, it's meh, but very fair for the price.

Edit: I'm going to add my funniest games to this review

Moment 1(I think I had 4 hours here):
Started a new game, and went to see the jobs available to me.
One of the jobs was a vandalizing case, I took the listing..

Just after taking the job, I found out I was supposed to do the vandalizing, okay, sounds easy enough, cause 200 Credits worth of damage, and take a picture of it, hah! Easy job, 200 credits is nothing

I find his apartment, break in, and look around for something to destroy... There's nothing to destroy.. Okay then, what do I do, I pull out my fists, and I start punching everything I can see, nothing gets destroyed, this job proved difficult.
I go to the bathroom, and I start punching again, everything I can see, and eventually, I destroy something.. The glass shower window, hah! But then I start bleeding, ♥♥♥♥, I panic, run around in his apartment, trying to find a bandage, there's none, ♥♥♥♥! I'm bleeding everywhere, DNA all over his apartment, panic, I don't know when he gets home, so I have to think fast, ignore the heavy bleeding, ignore the now all red floor, pick up random bottles of vodka, throw them on the wall, THEY BREAK, YES! He has a lot of vodka bottles, throw them all on the wall, but it wasn't enough damage (in credits amount), ♥♥♥♥, panic, I'm still bleeding, I find whiskey bottle, I accidentally drank it, now I'm drunk, I'm bleeding out, I can't figure out how to vandalize, and suddenly, I hear the door open, ♥♥♥♥, he's home, hide under his bed, He's walking around "This didn't use to be here", I sneak out, run to a medical vending machine, buy bandage, heal up. I'm not bleeding, but he's home, I gotta do something about that, go to the weaponry, buy a concussion grenade, I'm going to knock him out. I walk back to his apartment, knock on his door, I talk to him, "Lot's of blood, can I come in and take a look", "Sure I guess" I walk in, haha! My plan is working, I pull out my concussion grenade, throw it at his door (where he is still standing), "Hey stop that!" beep, beep, beep, I run to hide... BANG... I wasn't far enough, I got knocked out, I'm now in the hospital, my DNA is all over this guys floor, I racked up a 20000 credit fine, the job only payed 200... 10/10, actually one of the best games I've ever played

Moment 2(20 hours):
Murder case.
In the beginning it wasn't much, I went to the apartment, and started looking around.
I found the body and inspect it:
Entry wound, a bullet from low calibre ammunition
Cause of death 4'th of January, bladed weapon
Wait a minute... I thought it was a bullet?, I continue the search
Cause of death 6'th of January, shot to death with pistol or revolver
Second cause of death?? revived after 2 days?
Okay this case proved to be the most difficult case I've gotten, the case of Jesus Christ himself, now with the alias of Lucas Vasquez.
Lucas (Jesus) Vasquez had been stalked by a tall male, and requested CCTV footage to find out who, but he was denied, I found this on a letter in the apartment, the apartment didn't have a security room, so it must have been from his workplace.
I quickly checked for finger prints, found 2 that wasn't Lucas.
I went to his workplace, a restaurant, where I looked through the CCTV footage, I found 6 suspects with the matching description, let's call them the Lucas' Disciple (only half of Jesus' but perhaps that's for simplicity sake), one of these disciples turned out to have betrayed Lucas, by murdering him, Murad (Judas) Kuznetsov, he had matching fingerprints!
I haven't completed the case yet, I just found it funny that I somehow got Shadows of Doubts version of the Bibles: Matthew 27:3-8

Don't listen to the butthurt entitled "We don't want fortnite emotes" players. Fortnite emotes isn't a thing here. There's 4 emotes, only usable in main base and during staging phase (since it's third person), all being military related, then there's quite a few gestures, usable at all times, in first person. This game has had free updates for 8 years. 8 years, then they push DLC, that doesn't actually harm the game, at all what so ever. And with the DLC update, they even gave another free gameplay update.
It's not free to make games, updates aren't free to make either. Support the devs, gestures, weapon skins and what not, that stay true to the milsim experience, is the perfect way to keep free gameplay updates.
10/10 game, love it.
