An incredibly beautiful, scary and well-written (and voiced) survival horror game that isolates you on an oil rig (that drilled too deep) and forces you to find a way off and to safety.

This game is gorgeous. The colors, the environments, from the raging waves to whatever is lurking - it's so pretty and scary at the same time. The writing is great, you get fully realized characters with awesome voice acting and enough personality to successfully pull them out of any cliché trap.

The pacing is great. There was not a single moment when I thought it took too long or was rushing, the balance of action vs. exploration was just right. And I loved the story.

Above all: this was scary. The setting is genius, because the open sea alone is scary as heck, coupled with something weird going on in such a confined space created a tense atmosphere and I like that the game avoided cheap jumpscares and also kept the horror balanced, so you don't get bored by it.

One of the best horror games in recent memory. Just outstanding.

I loved this game to bits.

I played the previous game (a much shorter cosmic horror game called “Black Iris” and fell in love with the storytelling, style and atmosphere, so buying this was a given.

But my god, I did not expect that this game would be so creepy, fascinating and filled with secrets. You have a whole island to discover and there are so many little things you’d miss if you only went for the main mission. There’s side quests, quirky characters and just creepy things all over the place.

It says 1-2 hours on the game page but I spent over 3 hours gleefully exploring.

Developed by Snoring Dog Games, this absolute gem of a point & click pixel horror game was a hoot to play. A cool story, gorgeous and gory visuals, fun puzzles and a super smooth gameplay. It has it all: a hint system, saving to save some time when trying to get different endings and you can also click through (most) dialog if you are playing for the second or third time which I did (I usually can’t be bothered) just to see how my choices affected the game’s ending.

Threshold is a fantastic and unique horror game that managed to surprise me over and over again with fantastic plot, gameplay and conceptual decisions.

You start your new job managing a train observation post and if you now think you know what to expect, you absolutely do not.

I recommend going into this without reading too much about the plot or play mechanics beforehand. It’s so rewarding to simply go with the flow, be curious and make decisions on the spot and enjoy where the story takes you.

The gameplay is very fun and deliberately not too stressful because the game wants you to do your tasks but also leaves you enough freedom to explore - which you should.

There are checkpoints but unfortunately no saves, which would have been cool for any replay at least, which is the only criticism I have and I am not even sure it’s a flaw because it’s possible that this was a deliberate design choice to make replays count more.

One of my absolutely favourites in the last year(s) because I really don’t think anyone else would have been able to come up with a world and story like this.

Mouthwashing is a psychological horror game for people who usually don’t like psychological horror games.

It does not leave you alone in an abandoned house with never-ending loops but instead puts you in a space ship with your crew and deal with a drastic decision.

The character writing, environments and overall atmosphere is beautifully done. There’s no time wasted, you’re never really stuck in a room trying to find out if you have to do something or wait it out until the “psychological horror”-trope has run its course.

Instead, you go on an interesting character study and put together the pieces of what happened and why it happened. Exploring is rewarded, since the ship is small and you move around smoothly.

And yes, it’s scary and unnerving.

I love the concept, atmosphere and setting, it was genuinely scary at times and especially the sound design is fantastic. As a fan of Home Safety Hotline, this really hit the spot.

However, I do think that the length of the “writing” sessions is quite a lot, especially with some of the longer texts, which slowly turned this into a bit of a chore that detracted from the enjoyment.

I also think that the game in parts is way too dark and gets visually exhausting towards the end.

I’d still recommend it to everyone who likes some mystery narratives, a good hunt for alternative endings and good atmosphere. But be prepared to type a lot, this game is not joking about the data entry job part.

Although this is a short game, it’s well worth the 3 bucks. The art is amazing, there are fantastic horror cut scenes that are styled like claymation that are stunning.

The whodunnit story is incredibly engaging and even though I do not condone the ways of the witch finder, the way he goes about his work is a lot of fun.

This is an incredible work of art, it’s creepy, occasionally funny and very engaging.

This is a huge deviation from the other Midnight Scenes episodes but I am all the more happy that Navarro and Granell tried something new story-wise that still fits their fantastic anthology series “Midnight Scenes”. (I won’t go too much into it, since this is a game where the less you know about the story, the better it works)

As a pixel point & click game, it has a lot of different small things to do. This is more an explorative game where you basically further the narration, so there’s not super hard puzzles just a well-paced story that you uncover alongside the protagonist.

I love how unique all the character designs feel, even small details add to the world and people’s motivations make sense and feel real instead of just aiding the plot.

I really enjoyed this and think that the length without a save option is just fine, although any longer episode would probably need at least one chapter save but since the pacing of the storytelling was impeccable, it felt like a breeze and I didn’t want to stop in between.

I am absolutely in awe of this game.

A nun on the search of absolution meets a prisoner of war and together, they have to find their way.

Believe me, whatever you think this story and game will play out - it will surprise you.

First of all, this is one of the most fun puzzle games I’ve ever played. The puzzles make sense in their environment, there is no weird locks in front of kitchen doors, no code hunting, no backtracking.

Indika manages to create incredibly inventive physics puzzles that are a hoot to solve, you can’t stuck, you don’t have to backtrack or collect stuff, you can just go at it and solve it.

Indika might be one of my favourite video game characters ever. She’s flawed, she is relatable and she is trying her best - who isn’t?

The story is fantastic and manages the balance between comical and absurd moments perfectly with the very heavy, dramatic themes it features (shame, religion, redemption). As such, it reminded me of Kafka, combining horrible things happening to ordinary people and the surreal dark comedy in it. It also reminded me of Brecht because it broke the 4th wall constantly in very unusual ways.

I also think that the visuals are breath-taking, the oversized, oppressive but beautiful environments, the religious relics and trinkets - it all looks amazing.

Personally, I think this could be a strong contender for my game of the year, because I’ve never played anything like it before and I had so much fun, I was so surprised and delighted throughout and the way it tackled incredibly deep topics, was picture perfect.

Wow, what a game. I think the first hype indie horror game 2024 deserves all the praise because it’s incredibly well written, gameplay is fun, visuals are fantastic, voice over is so entertaining and every little detail increases immersion. All in all, this is a beautiful example how attention to detail, whimsy and terrifying creatures can result in gorgeous and probably quite timeless horror experiences.

One thing of note: this game does an incredible job at helping you memorize all the many different entries that you need to provide excellent customer support. Look, I have the worst short-term memory imaginable but I managed to actually remember these weird critters and entities over the span of several weeks (I usually played on Sundays) which is absolutely thanks to the great writing, naming of the entities and visuals that all help you to read and learn lore in a fun way. It seems minor but this is grade A game design and I am quite sure it is not easily done. So kudos.

On top, because it has been an issue with a lot of indie games lately: this game uses actual voice actors instead of horrible not-very-good AI and it shows. The voiceovers are super fun/scary and are a great choice to cut through the reading. It’s a fantastic balance.

And yes, I do have a link to my lets play, sorry not sorry ;)
