While I didn't find the daylight setting as spooky as the night setting in the original game, Left 4 Dead 2 was a fun and memorable experience, finished with a level of quality.

Sadly that level of quality was broken by a forced update that included environments, sounds, and weapons that didn't match up to the original release - which was an unwelcome step backwards.

Achievements that should have helped longevity are often badly designed, poorly worded, don't track well, or just don't seem to work at all.

These days you'll find some issues with the playerbase as they shun new players, and grief the ones that are trying to take the gameplay seriously.

Despite what feels like a significant loss of immersion, and a hostile culture, there's still some good gameplay in it, but in trying to artificially breathe life back into this product (with a bad update) they've just made Frankenstein's monster.

While veterans might occasionally come back for the sake of nostalgia, the market is now larger with more horror/co-op games than 10 years ago. I suspect that the game won't be as appealing to new players as it was when it was first released, and I won't be surprised if they release Left 4 Dead 3 and just port all of the content into it - making this game pointless (as this game made the first one pointless).
