As a huge follower of Harvest Moon, I was entirely skeptical for a year or so after hearing about Stardew Valley. I finally caved in...and wasn't disappointed. Stardew Valley replaces what has been lost in most Harvest Moon games nowadays. It also offers more in terms of exploring. I'll be playing this for quite some time, and I'm happy that I can randomly pick it back up after time off.

I've sunk 200 hrs so far in this game and even didn't know what Harvest Moon was until a friend told me.
